you can come round and cut my lawn with a push mower any time you like, i have better things to do with my weekends, 2 strokes not a option, goat wouldnt work cos the dogs would eat it

Here's a thread I started a while ago.

I ended up buying a Masport President 3000 which only Stihl shops sell. http://www.masport.co.nz/Default.aspx?tabid=1113 Cost $800 and I have to say is a good mower. Plenty of power, 200mm wheels, and does what it's told. With wet grass I don't use the catcher and lift the back plate with a bungy cord.
I intend to take off the major bolts and grease them cos if you don't, they are a bastard to undo years later.
I've got a couple of reel mowers too which make a far nicer job but don't use them because the lawns at this place have curves and shrubs which play havoc with the catcher.

Will find out for you tomorrow, but the old man had to buy a new one a few months ago, and got one from bunnings
I cant remember what size it was but he reckons its better than his old one which had alot more grunt, he said it cuts alot better due to having four blades, ill find out the name and what not but I dont think he paid much for it,
In saying that he got in under my discount which is price + GST.
Gotta love having a misses who works in a trade shop :innocent:

Rover quattro, cant go wrong. I wanted a mower that her that must be obeyed could use easy, cos I dont do lawns and she wont let me concrete the whole section.:Punk:

The best mower is one that someone else is using to mow your lawn with...
On a more serious note, the one I have (brand forgotten just now) is powered by a Honda motor. It seems to keep going on and on and on - had it prolly 20 years with no problems ever. And it hasn't turned my gay yet either...I don't think.

I had a Rover with the Briggs motor and while the motor was still perfect after 13 years, the steel body rusted out so the alloy body is a good idea.
Most modern 4-strokes have an oil pump now rather than the old Briggs' splash feed so are even more reliable. If a four stroke, just choose a genuine Briggs or Honda and get the best price you can for an alloy bodied one.

TORO, A bit more expensive but the best I've ever had
Alloy body.
6HP 4stroke
22 inch blade
Self propelled.
Mulch or bag with rear or side chute.
$1,000, may be less if you haggle a bit at Mitre10

They are a bit more expensive but have neat features like the fact that the self-propelled ones adjust to the pace you are walking at. More versatile in the features you state as well. Some plastic bits can give up though on them. but you may not have had any trouble yourself.
Most contractors use victa 2 strokes.
Hire companies prefer 2 stroke as well.
Thats how I would go

Snap! Me too. My old Rover is 15 yrs old and has never ever failed to start. The body rust is the problem. I've bolted aluminium straps across the failed body bits which looks naff but works. Its a spare now.
Still, the Masport President is even better so far. 200mm wheels make the mower easier to push, its quieter, and even more powerful.
The Honda mowers tend to be a bit more expensive - $1000+ but as people say, good machines.
