View Full Version : T-Shirt

Anyone out there know anything about the textile industry?

I was just thinking it might be good to get a T-shirt designed and made for members of this forum if they wanted it.

A bit of mechandise might help offset the cost of running this site which so far Spankme has been sponsoring and hosting .

I'm sure some of you guys have the talent to design something cool. Mind you it'd have to be a black T-shirt to get SpankMe to wear it.

perhaps a collared short sleeve workshirt with kiwibiker on the arm or pocket?

wari

Any word gixxer on your friend the T-shirt lady ?

Also what do you reckon about Cubans suggestion of a collared shirt? Sounds good too , but wonder about the cost with the small quantities that would be involved.

Still waiting to hear from her.
she is in Queenstown at the moment

Cuban, do you mean like a pollo shirt or one of those work style shirts with all the old shell and petrol badges on them that you see at the markets?

the work style ones sounds good, both will a bit expensive, can still look into them.

Saw a great Tee shirt pic in an old Performance Bike mag.

Rear view of biker in jeans cornering with the knee down (imagine the pipes, lean angle and fat rubber). Pic taken from close to the tarmac. The caption "Still wearing out the knees"

Gixxer

davidb5

Had a quick look, but must have been before August 2000, that when last lot went to the 2nd hand book shop.

Suggest any similar pic can be adapted by an arty type to suit.

I have prices and narrowed it to one print shop, I have made some rough designs and trying to find a scanner.
If there is anyone good at art or good at doing pics on P.C's (P.C format vectorized EPS?) holla.

when I find a scanner I will put the pics I have done.
The guy at the print shop said they can fix it up etc, but it is like $50 p/h extra.

Cuban
5th February 2003, 10:54
so hows it going guys?
whats the plan?
is it a touched up version of that sketch printed onto a shirt, or onto a patch, or is it still up in the air?
i think that if we were to say put the sketch on the back of a shirt (printed on) the it should be bold clean lines, and in an opposite colour to the shirt ( i.e. black shirt, white graphics)
And are we gonna have "kiwibiker" underneath the graphic, or something catchy and inevitably more try-hard like 'catch us if you can'?!!

Anyway,
thoughts to ponder

Good point. I can simplify or styilize that sketch if you want, I've got CorelDraw, so exporting an EPS won't be a problem. If you want a hand with any of the design, just let me know. I'm new, I know, but I'd like to help any way I can. :D

now we are getting somewhere,

I told the dude from the print place it would be something like a white pic on black shirt, or vice versa depending on what everyone wants, bold lines is definatly the way to go.

I think if we can get a couple more ideas and pics we can do the vote thing.

p0stal, I do have one or 2 pics (hand drawn) which I can send you to do if your keen, kinda comic style stuff, have not worked out how to get them down to 800x600.

I thought of having "kiwibiker" or even "www.kiwibiker.dynu.com", above and below the pic in a banner style or around the pic in a circle with something like what cuban said would be good.

Personally, I think white on black is better, black shirts just look better, especially if you're going for the work-shirt style, white gets dirty & marked too easily, & we want these to last, right? :D

Sure, Gixxer, send any images to blackcat@maxnet.co.nz, I'll have a go at converting them to a more delineated style, hell, I might even have a go at the one already there tomorrow. ;)

When you all decide what to use for the text, let me know & I'll incorporate it into the image.

Right, this is what I have so far, 1 color only, to keep the prices low. I've done 2 versions, I prefer the 1st one, but I gave the option anyway. The top pic in each image is for a white background, the bottom for a black BG.

Suggestions for improvement?

Those are looking impressive ... i like the simple style !!

The top two are the options I like best and the T-shirt will have to be black to get SpankMe to wear it, after all he started this all off . Does it cost more to have different colour shirts ? I like the top pic slightly more though , so could it be in one of those jaggedy type thingies that you see in cartoons ... you know the ones ... like the KAPOW !!! of a batman punch , then you could have the white jaggedy thingie on a black t-shirt eh? Just a thought ?

Be good to see what it'll be like with some wording too .

Good on you fellas ... top work and all that.

|| Good thinking, that man! :D

I replaced the starburst with a rounded box, & put the kiwibiker text in there, sorta like a road sign... It makes it look a lot more complete.

That looks great postal,
i think only the one colour would be best, cost wise and i reckon it looks wicked simple.

awesome work postal, and gixxer for the original, i really like how it has come out.
What does it look like with the roadsign bit tilted, like the signs(you know, a square rolled onto one corner?!).
im all for that design though, i think its sweet as!

good work all

Gixxer
7th February 2003, 10:09
p0stal, they look awsome, I will be sending you the other pic i had.
but i like these, the top pic is my choice, the road sigh look is great, how about yellow with a warning sign, like.

WARNING!
PIC
KIWIBIKER

or some sorts, maybe

WARNING
PIC
KIWIBIKER LOOSE

DANGER
PIC
LOW FLYING KIWIBIKER

the shirts can come in lots of different colours.
maybe we can do the lot ourselves and just get the T's, we seem to have the talent amongst the group.

yeah, I like the low flying one with the original pic, but I still like just the pic & the kiwibiker, in yellow, too.

Gixxer
7th February 2003, 13:52
I like the yellow as well, I agree with your comment about having the graphic more prominent, we may even be able to do a couple of different types.

Think we really want people to know that we are from kiwibiker, maybe even have a separate print out of the sign with www.kiwibiker.dynu.com?

really do want to see the kapow jagged edge thing as well.

awesome p0stal.

ha kiwizrx, do you make the screens and do the prints?

I thikn this one just looks really sweet, it's the simplicity of it... It'd make a really good centre back of shirt design.

http://homepages.maxnet.co.nz/blackcat/BikeA-Sign4Y.gif

as for starbursts, they are pretty old-school, they look kinda tacky, I think the road-sign design will be a bit more enduring, it won't age so quickly...

The shirts are looking fantastic guys, so much( hidden?) talent out there.

If I may presume to make a suggestion: perhaps the back picture can just say kiwibiker, and the sleeve logo have the web address?, or even put the web address on the pocket top. Just trying to help, not that you need it.

I'll take some regardless of the final outcome, besides too many cooks, etc.:done:

It might be a good idea to swap the logos over, & have kiwibiker on the back, I guess it just depends on how much you want to push the website...

I like the sleave and pocket logo's with the kiwibiker and pic on the back.
my vote is for that one, will work nice on T's as well.

I have the prices from one of the screen print shops i looked at, the only prob is that the work shirts looked cheap, with cheap denim.

I will look around today and see if I can find another place with decent work shirts, If anyone knows of a good place, let me know.

will try and get this all underway this week.

p0stal
10th February 2003, 10:48
Your best bet is probably to try & find the shirts seperately from the printers, maybe find a factory outlet or something, & get a bulk order, most screen printers will print on whatever fabric you bring them. And if you can find a fabric other than denim, maybe the same kind of stuff Dickies workshirts are made of, or something, they'll probably end up looking better.

<DIV>Ok, I have looked at the cost etc, and spoken to the printers, there is a 2 week turn around due to demand.

To cover the expense of the set-up and the cost of the shirts and printing&nbsp;and as this was started as a way of funding the site, here are the prices, so let me know if you think this is too much.

$50 work shirts and $30 for T's.

The work shirts are black only and the T's come in most colours, these prices may change depending on orders, and this price is with 3 prints per shirt, back, sleeve and front, so if we go for 1 or 2 prints per shirt this will bring the price down.

I like the pic on the back by itself, and I am keen on the sleeve as well.

Cheers

Gixxer</DIV>

bikerboy
17th February 2003, 18:04
 I'm in for a workshirt and a t-shirt. From my experience I would not think the price will drop much for two screens versus three. There may be a $10.00 drop for one versus three. The more "standard" the cheaper. If we can agree on a design for both shirt types and a minimum run the will come down. I agree the site should make some money out of this.:bigthumb:

p0stal
17th February 2003, 21:59
I think if we're going for just 2 prints per shirt, it should be the back &amp; sleeve, but I don't think 2 will be that much cheaper than 3, especially not in the setup/early run&nbsp;stages. As for tees, perhaps just the logo w/website on the back, &amp; the kiwibiker logo small centered front. Pricewise, that sounds about right for a small run of custom printed shirts. Put me down for a work shirt, med/large, I'm not sure yet.:D

&nbsp; Thoughts/ideas on the logos?

Gixxer
18th February 2003, 06:27
I agree on the back pic and sleave logo for the work shirt and back pic no sleave and name on chest for the T's.

the print cost is only $3 per print, but it is the setup cost that is the killa.

Kiwizrx, can u help in that department, how much would it cost to get the film from u?

What say we just get together , those interested and make some final decisions. Work out the final cost and then SpankMe or I can e-mail all the board members with the offer and how to pay and all that kinda shit..

The other thing to consider is the cost of postage etc,. and the work involved in doing it. For those who are outside of Auckland that is.

Is it still possible to get iron on stickers made? ... they might be a good option as well.

BTW, I'm pretty much free this week . Working on the weekend but could slip away for a while if we meet in the CBD. What suits?

That'd work really well on the workshirts, it'd look like one of those old-style US gas station shirts, that's pretty classy. :D As for T-shirts, though, left or right side logos don't look as good, as there's no pocket to put it on, &amp; so no reason to off-centre it. Design-wise, I've always prefered centre logos. ;)

How about a polo neck (like skivvy but not as high)&nbsp;long sleeve shirt.&nbsp; You could have kiwibiker.co.nz down the sleeve and/or around the neck with the small sign on the breast and large sign on the back - just a thought.&nbsp; This would be excellent for under leathers etc.......

I think a short sleeved shirt would be more wearable. I have at least 3 long sleeve polo necks and they only get worn on occasions in the 'depths' of winter in Auckland, although I'd wager Figjam would wear his all year round!!

I'd prefer a work/gas station style&nbsp;shirt

Well after being pissed about by <a href="http://www.amex-tee.co.nz/">Amex Custom Prints</a> I decided to find another screen printers. I got a good recommendation from <a href="http://www.illicit.co.nz/">Illicit Streetwear</a> to go to ESP screen printers. After visiting them I feel better about getting this done. In fact they told me they get many annoyed ex Amex customers.

Only problem is that they do not have the shirts we want so I still need to source these from somewhere. Illicit do a very nice shirt, but they are $60, with the cost of the printing this is a bit too much. Having said that I will be getting one for myself from there. But if anyone knows where we can get some nice, inexpensive short sleeve work shirts so we can start taking orders. I will also be looking around to see what I can find.

Once the screen is made thou, we should be able to take orders for t-shirts straight away. I will keep you informed.

The screen printers have the graphics and they are gonna print a polo shirt and a t-shirt next week for me to have a look at. I'm still trying to find a decent drill shirt.

Finally got the shirt printed and it looks good. Will only be doing a t-shirt for the moment and a polo shirt later. I will be getting prices tomorrow and when we are ready to take orders I will send all members an email. The screen printers can also do a long sleeve black business shirt if anyone is interested.

All shirts will be printed to order, so you will have the optoin of putting the logo on the front or the back.

Do the funbags come with the shirt?&nbsp; If so, I'll take 10 shirts please!

Actually, I agree, the picture on the back would be better and the KB address on the left tit.....I also agree that a polo would be better.

Not too many people noticed the KB sticker on the back to the Surf (well apart from the riders that waved and the one who had a chat as we passed) :niceone:

i guess with a KB membership of .04% of the NZ population, there is a *good* chance you'll see other KBers out there...
