Just been reading about the new BMW naked. Gets a pretty good write up. I was surprised to read they have gone to an all new, more traditional inline four, with a 55deg forward incline, as opposed to the 'brick' and 'boxer' motor!
The bike doesn't do anything for me in the looks department, but the 'S' looks nice. Your thoughts....

I think they had to try & do something about their Old Motors . 600cc bikes are putting out more HP then their 1200cc ones . I like the look of the 1200R & could see myself owning one too .

The faired version in pic two actually looks very, very nice and really expensive.
Saw one in person at the Hamilton Motor Show in march in a beautiful while and blue paintjob......

Is the engine that new? They have always had 4 cyclinders in the K series.

Yeh, but this is not flat like the 'K', but upright and slanting forward more like a Jap multi. There is a Yammy, from memory, that has quite a slanted engine. Can't think of the model off hand.

This is completely re-designed. It is thinner and thus can be mounted lower than many jap 4s, and also thus much different to the K series.
It certainly isnt a rotated K series engine......
Even better, all 4 cylinders recieve the same amount of cooling!

Don't R1's have a 50 degree forward tilt?
I'd like the electronic adjustment on the susp though.

At 167 BHP for a naked bike, I would like the R.!!

Uh, isn't a 270 degree rotation the same as a 90 degree rotation ?

Early R's had soft cams and were recalled.
New R in latest "Bike" magazine (english one) rode well but had a crap gearbox. In the end it failed and had to be sent back to BMW.
As for the strange front end. "Bike" said it had heaps of grip and control but didn't give much feedback.
Still for a BMW its a great looking bike, although if I wanted a tourer, think I'd get the new Triumph ST! it looks beautiful.

I've seen the promo DVD for the faired bike.
Awesome. Totally new front suspension. Some guy does the Nurmeburg Ring (excuse my spelling) in 7mins 58secs.
Alas thou 30k is just out of my price range by 29k.
