Ok so I have crashed by VT250 Spada. Fucking gutted and it looks like I'm gunna get paid out sweet fuck all.. Not even sure if I should have bothered with insurance in the first place.

Well a friend of mine has offered me an rg150, now I've been riding my spada for two years and can now get my full. Although budget means I won't be able to get a decent big bike anyway. What are peoples thoughts on the RG150? I've heard they're fun and they're faster than most 250s. Can anyone confirm this? Also do you think I'll get bored of it quickly? I rode my Spada in a very spirited fashion so I think downgrading could be a bad idea, although it's a two stroke so... Also the engine has been JUST rebuilt after an engine seizure. As in the motors only just been put in again.

Other option is my friend offering me a cheap gsx 250, pretty good nick but they're pretty tame bikes from what I've heard

Either of the bikes is going to cost me 2g soo I'm not sure which one to go with, thoughts welcomed please!

My RG150 used to eat 250 twins for lunch and pass them as they valve bounced in the sub-170kph mark.
Seriously fun bikes. But be warned - its addictive.

mate had one, for all i rode it, it was indeed a fun bike. poke enough. but fussy with the oil mix. ie you'd have to adjust it between round town/weekly and country blatting.

an rg250 will be illegal under the LAMS laws if/when they bring em out, so either fork out for full licence and buy that, or just get the one-fiddy and enjoy.

i would not bother with the gsx.

Once you go 2 stroke you wont want to go back.
The RG150 will be alot of fun but you will be asking for trouble out of a $2000 RGV250

Check the mileage on the RG150, if its done over 30,000km and has original barrel (even if its OS piston) I probably wouldn't. Otherwise fine. Mine was ~40,000 and it ate several sets of powervalves in short order, ended up getting custom ones turned with a snugger fit - but these were only on/off not graduated like the suzuki.

Problem being the bores for the powervalves after enough KM start to wear, and then the valves rattle, top of the shaft breaks they fall freely into the piston and get lunched and even if just the valves are stuffed it costs a shit-tonne to replace (~$700 OEM suzuki valves 4 or so years back) - new ones will crap out in 5,000km or less if the barrel has worn ports otherwise you're golden, if you have them adjusted properly and give them the occasional cleaning.

Otherwise, reliable (as a small 2T goes anyhow ..) when setup properly - I never had to adjust my oil ratio for round town, open road or track riding. Good quality synth 2T oil is what you want, and its gonna drink fuel fairly quick. Test ride it and see what you think, also don't give it beans until its properly warmed up! soft standard front forks, but plenty of cheap tricks to make them handle alright.

Oyster on here has setup stacks of these bikes for racing, he knows all the tricks. Mine was pretty much on par with friends VTR250, his had a bit more torque and could pull ahead slightly at lower speed - but top end he had no chance. :2thumbsup Speedos are waaay out on them too (over -read).
