View Full Version : Datalogging - what options are there?
I'm looking for a data logger to use on an '08 ZX10-R, in particular I want to log Air/Fuel Ratio and RPM.
Can anybody recommend an affordable, easy to use datalogger to record these two parameters?

Make sure you log the TPS as well.

What is your budget?
What is your previous experience with logging technology?
Are you looking only to monitor a few engine traces or are you looking to utilise the technology to improve every aspect?
How expandable (modular) do you want it?
How much time are you prepared to devote to learning how to get the best from your spend?
This is my first foray into logging, so I'm looking for something simple and basic - and I'm expecting to spend some time learning about this. As per my original post, I'm only looking to monitor a couple of basic parameters (RPM, AFR, and TPS as imdying has suggested). Something like the Dynojet Wideband Commander would probably be ideal, if anyone can recommend suitable alternatives or suggest anything better for similar or less $$ then that would be great. I don't have thousands to spend on this, that's for sure. At the end of the day, the bikes been tuned, but I want a simple way to monitor the effects of different environments on the tune.

Yeah, a WBC will do that fine. If you have a PC3/5 on the bike, then you can use the LCD screen as the logger instead, which will log to an SD card which is a bit more convenient. Depending on what gear you're using, it's a little expandable via the multi function hub. Pretty cheap, easy to use, update rate is only 10hz though.
Thanks imdying, I appreciate your feedback.

Sure no worries. After that you really to start turning some cash over unfortunately. If you're not racing or serious about tinkering with that sort of stuff, it's all probably overkill. I've started building my own to supplement the gear I already have. Nothing special, but none of mine will measure at 1000hz and I'm interested to see if that sort of data rate is actually worth having (on suspension specifically). With modern electronics it's all pretty easy to knock something like that, there are some kits around for them, but you'd want to have an interest in electronics/programming.
