Luggage Problem on Harley Sportster, looking for ideas. My mates trying to fit side bags but as the bike has a custom back end this seems to be a problem.

Can anybody help with what side bars would work?

Another thought is custom making the bars. Is there anybody that can do a good job of a set?

It's a "custom" model but as far as I can tell it's completely stock. A standard set of bag supports will bolt right on. They're just a couple of U-shaped pieces of pipe, one end connects at the top of the rear shock and the other connects where the other bolt is halfway between the shock and the indicator.

Im no Harley expert in any way. The owners a mate and thats what they had been told by a dealer. So any rack for a sportster will work then?

I'd imagine so. I think the part number is 90584-85.

They look like this http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/14/144/11547/23298/PITEM/Drag-Specialties-Chrome-Saddlebag-Support-Brackets-1999-Harley-Davidson-Sportster-1200-Custom---XL1200C-Parts.aspx

Actually I think I gave you the wrong number and I can't find the book. They should be able to source the right ones for an XL of that year though.

Spoke to a dealer today and they say a kit is needed to move the indicators.

the only way to carry it is rolled up under your headlight.
