Okay, heres one for u all.

I do a graphic design course, part-time at night school, 3 nights a week...makes a long week, after working full time as well.

Anyway, for this project i have to design a mag 8-12 pages, any topic....so there just aint no way I'd do anything except bikes of course! :ride:

But I'm kinda stuck for a name.....yeah I know a few of the usual ones, but I'd really like something that only us motorbikers would get you know?

Any and all ideas would be considered, and just remember it is only for my class, so wont go any further than that and maybe if it is REALLY good (thats is.... I get a good pass in it) I'll print you out one and send it to ya!

I'll prob be looking for stories to go in it too, I'll let you all know.
Of course Dangerous has stepped in and given me the usual shit :niceone: , which I might just scare him with and USE!!

Ta muchly

"Ride me" (and put a chick on a bike on the cover)...

Make it about race bikes, call it "Time for a quickie"

Dirt bikes - "Rough Rider"

Find and use some little known sexual term, maybe something used by the Gay community or the hero parade. It'll give some people out there a laugh...

Make it ambiguous...:ride: :devil2: :ride:

def have a couple of bike fix/safety articles in it...gotta full up space

these are all sounding good....I had thought of the 'throttle' one, but unfortunately it has bad connotations as well
Its damn hard to pick one that doesn't have other meanings

I like the horizon one...that could work

you can then maybe use one of Big Dave's many pictures as your front page - like Feints picture from the ride....

How about 'Lines' ... or 'fill in the gap Lines' ('Perfect Lines', 'Curves and Lines' ... something like that)

A bit of a double meaning using the 'lines' we take on the road and the 'lines' of text as it's for a mag.

As it's for graphic design, the name could also tie in quite nicely with a cover illustration using a perspective drawing ... something like a motorbike leaned over and lined up to a point in the distance between some hills or something we all understand as bikers.

Good luck anyway

"Lost" - with the caption "new bikers choose a destination, old bikers choose a direction"

Make it a biker magazine with a focus on bike gear and call it polyarmoury ATGATT (ok I need to be shot for that)

yeah, I'm a sick one, hence why I'm home today

That's the one. For this project - perfect.

MOTORCYCLIST
or just
MOTORCYCLE

For a masthead it's best if you can get away with one word - best shape/alignments.
Make it a tall font and it will fill the top space nicely - and it's a simple enough word that you can obscure part of it with a clear cut helmet etc and will still remain legible.

yeah hopefully will follow most of those concept/ideas
Still trying to decide if the cover page should have a racing pic or more of a riding pic.....i.e. appeal to the mass of riders who dont race, simply ride.
I'm leaning more to the 2nd approach...any good pics out there? Would need to be a4 size, and 300 dpi (if you have any idea what that means)....altho the mag is only Black & white so could be a little lower in quality.

......and that "uncaged" is truely getting to me, that could be VERY good!

Ok so now :devil2: advocate...what are the other connotations of the word?
anything really bad or just the wild/untamed idea that springs to mind?
Which I dont think is bad at all for this kind of mag

:) yeah not bad, but too many simply called that around at present...want something more original.....but the layout is good, hopefully I can do something very similar.

But dont ya love it when you can do a topic that you really enjoy...been lucky so far, we also had to do one on....would ya believe...the Brass monkey!!
Most of the class had no idea about it...so I had to fill the gaps a little

I even managed to convince all the others in the class to use some of my pics rather than the bleh ones there :niceone:

Uncaged is a BRILLIANT title...go WRT (I think 'twas he who postulated first...).

And I can't think of anything 'dodge' about the word either. It's not used by anyone I know...for euphemistic reasons.

So go to it. Hey...one thing that might help is if you put 'amusing' captions in the photos. It's personal preference, but sometimes the wit just spills out of the page, as quick as my coffee splurts out of my nose if I'm caught unawares. Check Loaded and FHM (particularly british copies) for the dry sense I mean! :)

Best of luck!

Gwenda

That's cool - the most important thing is what you can do with it - how the graphical elements and eye candy have continuity with the title.

You can use bars and hacksaws and locks etc for decoration with 'uncaged' - so it works for the same reasons I like motorcyclist. (Easy to decorate with bits of bike)
Also lets you go a bit more gen X and reverses, gothica etc.

It's not really the name - it's what you can hang off it easiest - that is most important for a project. You want the easiest example to demonstrate your ability to apply creativity, but also continuity, balance and theme.

Different if it's a payin' gig.

Yeah - I have a rough idea what 300dpi means.
As long as it is not for resale - i don't mind if you lift some images from my site www.davidcohen.co.nz
or the download page at
www.amps.co.nz
also has some 1024px images that will convert OK to greyscale.
