When I ride with my Zumo GPS fitted (as I did today) I find it really exciting that through Bluetooth the Zumo can talk to my iPhone.
I understand Bluetooth sort of. But can someone tell me what my Zumo and iPhone want to talk about?
In other words what would I use that connection for?

Um, women??? ;)
If you use a headset, you can channel phone, ipod etc all thru the Zumo, so that that can act as a channel for all that shit.
Not that I use them

Depending on which zumo u have, you can set yourself up with speakers and a mic in your helmet. Then you can make and recieve calls, listen to your music, let your zumo tell you where to go and even talk to a pillion passenger.

Thank you for that as the next step for us is to get an intercom it is good to know what it can do.
Have a Zumo 550
And as for the other replies..... I thought it more likely that they were talking about how cold I looked and that a few extra clothes today might have helped!

...even talk to a pillion passenger.
Why the F would I want to do that? That precious time in the helmet is the only chance I get to not have to listen to her!

My good sir, that is an excellent point. If I wanted to get my ear bent by Mrs P, or listen to the spawn fighting amongst themselves, the I'd take the cage!

type "bluetooth, wikipedia" into google.
BT can be used for
audio gateway
data transfer (3G internets, packet data, information, ad hoc networking etc)
peripheral connect (printers, mouse, keybd etc)
it operates at ~2.4Ghz and optimum range is about 3ft, typical max is 20ft.
what your GPS is probably sending your Iphone is either co-ordinates for geo-tagging/ map software or audio for "turn left 200m ahead" type shit
it is possible for biker-biker/pillion comms but i reccomend VOX capable UHF for that... (more stable and longer range)
