Finally decided to go play with the big boys (i.e. proper fast, not pretends fast) and I had an absolute ball.

However, I'm completely shagged! I've spent hours and hours out at Woodhill, so I'm pretty comfortable in sand now, but there's something about trying to ride competitively... Even though it was just a practice and only 20 minute sessions, it had me hanging out of my helmet by the end of each session. My mate couldn't even manage to finish a session.

Was awesome though, nothing too scary for the novices, even though quite a few people were being stretchered out for a sit in the ambulance.

when the first guy stretchered out is Tony Cooksley, aged 50 something, ex world champ, been riding mercer since we started there in 93, and on the first couple of laps of practice its not a good start,

wicked day, love riding there, it gets rough, and its one of the best workouts you get on a dirtbike, but its really fun with wicked berms and unmatched corner speed

... and unmatched corner speed

You're right there, I couldn't match even the corner speeds of the kids on 85s...

have not heard, was a very big one in a fast part of the track, (esp in the first practice when it was flat) he had hurt his shoulder and had been knocked out,

How often is the track at Mercer open.

Driven past so many times wanting to take the bike there but have never heard anything about it.

Definitely keen to ride there!

Is it normally 1-4 for practice days? Queens birthday was 12-4, so just wondering if that will continue.

it is normally 1-4 for practices, we made it longer for the 1st one since its normally very big and we have to run 3 groups,

Ah makes sense, it was pretty crowded out there in some of the sessions. I'm just gutted that I can't do the race next weekend (my GF's birthday and I enjoy having my testicles attached to my body), but I'll do the next practice and the race after that.

Definitely recommend to anyone who's on the fence about having a go, it'll make you much faster than just pottering around on trail rides.
