Problem is that the bike is running on two cylinders...I'm sure its electrical

I have cheaked the fuel its all ok,

Have replace all spark plugs today,

Have clean connections and tested cap resistors and they seem fine...

have swapped leads around and they work on other cylinders...

The coil set up is that 1 & 4 run of the left hand coil and 2 & 3 off the right hand coil the cylinders are 1234 left to right...

Could the leads when in 3 & 4 be loosing spark once they are back on the plugs depsite showing a nice blue spark when tested of the frame?

Oh I need the bike sorted before sunday so its sort of urgent at the moment..

Thanks in advance

Its 3 and 4

If that is the case ... the coils are not the issue.

Start it in the dark ... any short out in the leads will be obvious.

No shorts showing in the dark, So am thinking the HT lead and cap connection is parting once back on the plugs....

Coil 1 leads to 1 and 4, coil 2 leads to 2 and 3.

Unless you have the most unusual crank I've ever heard of

Has it just started?

Could it be a half ass speed limiter removal job? I cant remember the cbr 400 had it but the VFR 400 if you done it wrong it went into limp home mode and cut two like it would once you hit 180km/h .. on the track ..:msn-wink:

Nup, they drop power to the coil at whatever the stock gearing RPM at 180k is in top gear, same as my Kawafuckingsaki

hopefull this will be a easy fix, on every honda i have worked on (and the number i have worked on must be in the thousands) one coil does cylinder 1 and 4 the other coil does 2 and 3. work out what cylinders are running and swap the leads to suit, if cylinder 1 is running swap the lead from 3 to 4, if cylinder 3 is running swap the lead from 1 to 2, then plug the other coil lead into the spare hole. If the leads don't reach one coil should have longer leads and you may have to swap the wires from the loom between the coils to suit. unless your bike has the strangest crank set up i have ever come across this should work.

The leads are around the right way as you guys say its just the typing was wrong way around:brick:

How ever I have had some luck with number 3 by cutting back some of the HT lead and refitting the cap, will sort 4 out tomorrow,I think age may be catching up with the HT leads....

I just had a hunt and I seem to have given away my spare ZZR600 coils/leads, which is a shame

Out of curiosity, are you running it on the sidestand? If it hasn't been run for a while (mine does this) it'll only run on two until you put fresh gas in and sit it up straight

Unfortunatly its standing upright on the hydrolic lifter.....:msn-wink:

I going to get a new set of leads, guessing after 25years they could do with being replaced...

Thought of doing a coil over plug conversion? I will be doing one on my 600, just because I can.

It has been done before on ZX6/ZZR600s so I should get along okay with it. Can source ZX636 coils for 25 quid :niceone:
