Ric
9th June 2012, 16:09
I am currently living in Thailand and can get access to 2nd hand 2 stroke air cooled 125cc engines.
Mainly Suzuki and Kawasaki. If anyone is interested in me looking around for them, let me know.

There are suzuki 125's models trz and trs rotary valves, they seem to be similar to a gp but the only info i can google is on thai websites.
Also Kawasaki gto 125 rotary valve which you can google easily.
Something called Yamaha Concord but it may be a 135cc.
Suzuki rgv 150's.
I'll go back to the graveyards for another look soon.

the Kawasaki AR80 might interest the Two stroke developers.
AS too the Suzuki RGV125's (Pre1995-1997; with the USD forks).

yip.

I don't think there are that many around.
it was my dream learns bike (next to the Cagiva moto) when I was a lad (recall seeing one in Phil Turnbul suzuki ~93-95??)
Shame this country never really had a small bike culture back in the 90's; we could have had a number of cool Two-strokes 125 screamers NSR/TZR/Moto/RS/RGVs etc. now were are stuck with boring old 4bangers

Yes I think there were some 150's there. I was mainly looking at air-cooled. Are you interested in something like that?

I think you will find there is quite a nice little market here for KR150 and RG150 (maybe not as much as 3-5 years ago).. Especially Barrels, head, cranks and maybe even carbs.

17' wheels could also be useful; but from memory most little bikes over there have real skinny wheels. Did the honda NS-1 ever make it that far south>???

There is two different Super Kips engines (I think) and the early Kips engine. BUT I have got a 1995 Thai model with a Super Kips 1778 and a 1998 NZ model with the early Kips engine. Bit random with the engines and what went into what bike. Maybe two model 1855 as well, one has a O-Ring head

Trying to figure out what is what in via Thai and Jap site

Hi Ric.

I'm mainly interested in engine parts; namely cranks, cylinders and heads (and any condition accepted). entire motors would be great but hard to ship.
quite a number of the small yamahas (TZR, DTR, TDM etc.) all run the ~ same casings and internals.
I'll shoot you my email address and we can discuss this further.

I saw some KR's yesterday. The casting no's were 1779, 1724 and 1855. The engine is about $NZ170, or can get cylinder head and barrel for $90 pre shipping cost.

Doesn't seem to be much difference in trz and trs. Maybe 1 was slightly earlier than the other. The heads look a little different but I'll try and find out if they're interchangable, because it'll suit me if they are.

To give you an idea on the shipping costs. It's about $35 for the first kilo and goes up about $15 per kilo from there. That's going with the local post office.
DHL. TNT etc don't cover this area but yesterday I found a local courier who works in with FedEx. I called FedEx and their charge was almost exactly double the above rates, so the options are limited.

Email them (Ranuka) directly; you can go through here: http://www.akunar.com/AKUNAR_CONTACT.htm
it helps with getting a better deal and/or faster response.
They don't always have some of the stuff on the webpage; then they go into sleep mode unless you harass them...

There shipping is pretty good once they actually find the stock and ship it....

The place here probablly isnt as big as the Jap one. It's a village in the middle of nowhere that has turned into a recycling centre. About 8 bike yards with 60 - 120 bikes in each. I tried posting some photos but couldn't for some reason. If you email me I could send you some.

1855, the cylinder is a dark charcoal colour, head a bit darker and the Super Kips cover are a light gold colour. Thats the Cyclone engine out of a 2001 ZSR150, KR150F on the frame.
Carb is the same by the look of it, think we had a 142 main and bigger pilot jet in the ZSR. Ignition, flywheel and pipe are different than KR

The other Super Kips engine has 1779 on it and is light silver on cylinder, head and Super Kips covers

I don't suppose anyone here is familiar with both the KR150 engines and KDX200/220 engines? Both these bikes were made in Thailand, they have a few matching parts but I'd be really keen to find out further info on what matches.

10 i believe.

I have a KDX200 (Same as the 220). Pretty easy to get parts for them as they are very common.

We have a fair few 150's here in new zealand. More RG150's than KR150's however thats kinda going the other way as the KR's are more robust and the RG150's are slowly dwiddling away.

I'm in Thailand we're the KDX isn't so common but there are plenty of KR150s. Although the clutch baskets are different, the plates are the same size. Would be good to know if any major parts are interchangeable, save me a lot of time and money buying stuff from overseas.

Are the 150s being used for racing or road riding?

150 here in NZ are being used for both. We have a class here called streetstock which is dominated by RG's and KR's.

As the class name suggests, very little modification from the road base model is allowed.

That's a shame, light weight racing pipes and CDIs are available over here.

But it has made the class good fun and close for those involved.

Aftermarket CDIs (I'm assuming they are programmable and come with their own software); BST, Cheater, rexton etc.

what are they worth?

Yea theres alot of work that could be done to the engines but its primarily an entry level class for our young riders to start in with somewhat evenly matched bikes ie takes the checkbook out of the equation for the youngin's

That's true. I managed to find a parts catalogue for the KR150 http://www.scribd.com/doc/30455888/KAWASAKI-KR-150-parts-catalog

I'm not sure of the prices, but they aren't programmable or anything too fancy.

I must be reading a different set of rules than you

"There shall be no restriction on the make, type or design of carburettor,
ignition, exhaust, piston, cam, valve springs or cooling system except for class
eligibility"

I think he was referring to this:
Streetstock is open to any street type road registerable mass production
machine up to 150cc of any make available or sold or on sale in New Zealand,
in standard specification, except for carburetor jetting and external gearing.

I er..... read what the rules actually say. As opposed to what you think they mean.:innocent:

I would have thought, though, seeing as you have a Honda, you would be a lot nicer.
