Hi all. Mrs has a GN125 and hardly uses it. Was going to hard wire an Oxford battery charger/maintainer into it but its a YB7A with the caps and the acid in it. So tell me, do we need to loosen the caps when its charging to avoid a thermonuclear meltdown or will it be fine permanently plugged in without loosening anything? If we have to loosen then she can't be bothered mucking round with it so will swap battery out with a acid free sealed unit. Any thoughts?

Go for it ! The battery minders trickle about the same as would normally go in while it's running !

No tutuing needed when ya park up other than plugging in !

As long as it is a genuine maintianer, it will limit its charging / voltage to below about 14.3 volts which is the sweet spot for lead acid bats. If it gets up towards 15 volts then it will start gassing and destruction would be the result, though thermo nuke would be unlikely.

So suggest you get yourself a digital multimeter ($15-20) and test the voltage while charging if your worried.

You should have seen my eyebrows jump up to the roof when I read the thread title

No flames or gas so looks like we'll be sweet :)
