Hi All,
Round 2 of the Bridgestone VMCC Winter Series was held at Manfeild again.
The forecast had been for rain showers on Saturday, and this time the forecasters were not wrong.
I was quite happy with this, as in the past I have proven to be a reasonable wet weather rider, and this may well give me the chance to close the lead on the Nick Prestige Builder Pro-Lite Championship leader, one Aaron Hassen on another Ninja 250R.

After getting to the track and sorting out all my gear in the pit garage, and setting my tyre pressures, I went and signed on.
After a little bit of socialising it was time for riders brief.
The new location for brief was awesome, and seemed to prevent people having their own discussions.

I caught up with Aaron straight after brief and he was telling me he hated the wet on his Ninja, as it tends to wash very quickly when pushed over the limit. I agreed, but knew where that was, so had no intention of going there.......

After qualifying started, I got changed and headed to the dummy grid before the 5 minute call... I was so excited to get out there and do some laps in the wet, and set a solid time for the start position. It rained again just to ensure the track was totally wet.

Qual:
The gate opened, and I headed out first. I stood on the pegs to shake my leathers down, and then waved to MSTRS who was on flag point 1.
After looking up the trank to ensure it was clear, I headed out.
Right as I turned the bike toward the Apex of turn 1, the front slipped, and the bike went down quicker than I could say Fuc.. and I was on my shoulder!

Game over Player 1.

I made sure I had stopped moving, and then decided it would be best if I was on the inside of the corner so I didn't have to run out of the way if somebody else slipped over. I found a suspicious piece of metal close to the scratched in the track.... not sure if it had anything to do with it, but really didn't belong there!
Nigela, and Blair came to recover the bike, and I got myself back to the medical centre.

They confirmed what I had thought. I had broken my Right Clavicle (collar Bone).
Aaron Hassan came to see me to see if I was okay. I really appriciated that.
So after some pain relief, and a kiss from my partner Coral, I was in an ambulence to hospital.

The x-rays don't look the best, and it might require surgery....
I never do things by halves when I am making an ACC claim.

So after sitting around, and boosting the pantry with calcium filled foods, I am here typing with my non-dominant hand, and about to watch the pro's race WSBK.... The codine is helping with the pain.

There are many people to thank:
Firstly, Coral - thanks babe, I am the worst patient, I know! But I really appreciate all you do.
All the St Johns staff, You guys are legends.
The staff at P North hospital. You do a great job.
Blair and Nige for the bike recovery..... I remember what it was like on the quad on days like that!
Jeff for making sure I got to the medical okay (we had about a minute to spare)
Chappy for ensuring the bike and gear made it back to your place.
All the well wishers - too many to list; your support is awesome.
Karel Pavich (ProRider) - Sorry to let you down on Sunday, but thanks for being so understanding.
Sam Fitzgerald from Celtic Lethers - They slide really well, and nil damage!

Haven't looked at the bike yet, but it will be fine....
For some reason my Camera failed. A real shame that, it is still working though.

Cheers

You should have taken notice when I went past you shaking my head on the grid after trying to qualify on supercorsas!

Anyway, just go for a Colin Edwards type operation, see you at the test day on friday? :-)

That was a Spanish Inquisition moment, for sure.

Yeah mate.... I do remember you coming back in...

Yup, will be hoping to get the Colin Edwards mod done.... at least they have to (or should) remove the chips, so while in there, might as well take some tools and do the job properly eh?

real shame matey - rest up!!
Will do.... never got the chance to ask you what happened to the Cane.... at least you came back with the bike, so it must have been mechanical...

Well... We will see ;)

Ah crap! I knew you had gone down, but no idea you had done a collarbone. I wondered where you had disappeared to! Hope it heals fast Funny thing is, I have never actually broken one before.... but I knew straight away! I have done my left AC joint many years ago, and in some ways a break is better.
I hope it heals fast too...

Gutted for ya mate, heal up well !

Cheers mate.

Aaron H reckoned I would be okay in a week.... maybe if I was 13 and still growing!

Not doing a darn thing on it Nicksta. Plenty of rest. It is really bad, and if knitts like it is, it will look ugly anyway. I'm hoping for surgery.
Yes, I take glucosamine anyway, and I take calcium in as many forms as possable, as to ensure I find a form my body absorbs.

After reading Robert Taylors atricle, I came up with a possible reason for my crash! (I have just been watching air crash investigation too)
See, usually I sit on the dummy grid and bounce up and down on the forks quite a few times to warm up the fluid.
This also gets all the internals moving.
For some reason I forgot to so this on Saturday.
Further, I loaded my bike Friday night, and the suspension had been sitting half stroke in freezing rain.

So the first real task that was asked of the forks was to keep a cold tyre on a wet track.... Obviously they didn't want to do that at all....

Geez Aaron,

Shame to hear you kissed the tarmac. Hey, at least you did it in the right place with all the help at hand.

Now for the careful part, no I'm not talking about the healing process, I'm talking about being an obedient patient so the woman looking after you doesn't cause you more injuries!

All the best with the recovery.

By the time l came out of Pit Lane and got onto the track you were already up on your feet waving at the rest of us to avoid running into your bike which was lying on the track along with your camera. all l could think of was......What the hell happened for you to come off your bike so quickly after entering the track. It wasn't until l went down to see Neil Chappell who you were sharing a garage with that l found out you have broken your collarbone which meant that you came down on your shoulder fairly hard.
I felt sorry for you that your days Racing had ended before it started as l know that you enjoy your Racing as much as we all do.
All l can say to you now is, that l hope you heal up fast and that it wont be too long before your back out there with the rest of us.

+1 Same goes, I came out of the slip road going WTF - why is Aaron standing on the side of the track?!, and how did that happen?!
It wasn't till I spoke to Coral later that I found out you'd busted your collar bone - and it sounded quite bad, and you'd already gone off to Hospital!!

So like the other's before me - I sure do hope things get sorted and heal up pronto, and correctly. Don't let it go if you're not happy, or things just aint right, 'cos once it settles - that's pretty much how it will stay! My (still) slightly munted arm is proof of that!

Hope to see you upright and on top of the Ninja at Rd3!

Thanks all....
Got back from the specislists today with a little bad news...

It is broken in 2 places!!!!
That means at least 6 weeks before I can even contemplate weight bearing.
If it is still sore after 12 weeks then, and only then they will look at doing "something else" (Surgery).

I am hoping that the floating section of bone doesn't turn to chalk in that time!

My next apointment is in 4 weeks, and I wll be starting physio then.... I will press for surgery if I am not better by then.
I also have work to consider, and it is not like we have an excess of people there at the moment either!

All that said, I am learning to rest.....
