One guy is planning on building the starship enterprise, not a scale model, not a life size replica.... an actual real size working ship. I havn't looked to closely at his plans yet as I'm studying .
From what I understand he believes it is possible and the plan is to assemble it in orbit as the actual thing is so large it would be near impossible to launch from earth.

Reported in the news : http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/jun/01/final-frontier-starship-enterprise-plan

And the actual website where all the details are: http://www.buildtheenterprise.org/

It doesn't sound like he is quite as nutty as one might think, I 'm sure plenty of people will disagree tho.

Its kind of old news.

And without a working warp drive whats the point.???

If he started with the teleporter he wouldn't have to build it on earth.

only 1 trillion?

Its only the first hundred miles that is difficult.

He would be better to build an orbital tether then everybody could benefit

Praps NASA could finally get around to building that rail gun for launching rockets.

The metal(s) for building the Enterprise doesn't even exist [or if it does, won't be available in sufficient quantities to make it viable] nor the matter/anti-matter generators for even just power generation and thrust for sub-space travel.

We're only at the stage where we're only just learning how to throw one atom of matter and anti-matter into one another to simulate the Big Bang and look at how big and [relatively] crude that device is.

Better to build it in Minecraft (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=lXUkdrcey-w#t=89s), at least that'd be possible and 'to scale'...

If I was the love child of Seven Of Nine and Captain Janeway (don't ask how I was conceived it would blow your mind) would that make me automatic choice to captain this new Starship? Put it this way, if I wanted to do it, resistance would be futile.

You gotta think of the more important things...

Like Buck Rogers had Colonel Wilma in it. She was hotter than Seven of Nine.

How would they launch it?.... :corn:
Some that is almost kilometer long and 300 mts wide...that would take some catapult.

Amateurs...

I always had the horn for Christine Chapel in TOS as well.

plus the green skinned alien birds that Kirk got to pash up. and Mudd's women. and the chick that went off with Khan Noonian Singh. and the Sally Kellerman as Dr Dehner.

The sad thing is if you took all the money and recources we´ve squandered between ourselves on military technology since the first moon landings we could easily do something like this right now. US$700 billion just from the Iraq invasion.

Wouldn't that depend on whether the other 8 of Nine had had love children as well? That could only be settles with a jelly pool, the Kirk fighting Spock fight music and Klingon weapons.
