Hey all, who's imported a bike from OZ to NZ?.
I'm moving back in a month or so and am thinking about bringing my Buell back with me.
Looking at info sent via a Freight company it looks like i'll be up for GST, i haven't owned it for a year and haven't been outa the country
for more than 21months.

I do plan on keeping it tho.
Can anyone give a 100% answer on weather i will have to pay GST on it?.
If so its not gonna be cost effective to bring it back after i pay whats owing on it plus shipping....

doesnt look like you qualify because of the time. as below.;)
motor vehicles (including motorcycles) that are imported by a person who—
(i) has arrived in New Zealand and, on the date the motor vehicle is imported, holds a
document authorising residence in New Zealand; and
(ii) has resided or been domiciled outside New Zealand for the whole of the 21-month
period preceding his or her arrival; and
(iii) has personally owned and used the motor vehicle overseas for at least 1 year before
the earlier of the following:
(A) the date of the person’s departure for New Zealand:
(B) the date on which the motor vehicle is surrendered for shipping; and
(iv) gives a concession reference 80 undertaking: Free
pic hasnt come out, looks like its the file type.......

I'd suggest you ring or email Customs and get it from the horse's mouth. Email's probably the best way, you can print the responses and keep them for reference when you ship the bike. I looked into taking my bike to WA but it just wasn't worth the aggro, far easier to Oz-NZ tho. The Ozzie authorities were extremely helpful and I'd wager the kiwi bunch would be just as professional.

Bringing this back up.
Currently the bike isn't in my name, been a slack arse, its still under the bike shops name.
To get it in my name i need a Roadworthy, swap rego over to VIC from NSW and pay Duty, looking at around $1200+ all up. Then plus importing costs. More $$$$$$$$
Just thinking could i get the bike shop to cancel rego, and import it unrego'd?. Like one would do if importing a bike from the States etc...
What paper work would i need to import it????????.
Obviously i wouldn't have ownership papers as such just a bill of sale.

yea you would need ownership title, you would need the de-reg papers and evidence of reg in the country it came from.. not sure what else u need.
I got an imported bike in the shed - I have NO paperwork or previous proof of it being reg in any other country.. all i have is ownership paper to say i own it and its not stolen but thats not enough for the govt unfortunately. it sucks, id love to reg it its mint cond but can't it just sits there getting dusty.

Rang the NZ side of the shipping agent, she couldn't help that much, said she hasn't dealt with any that haven't been previously owned overseas.
So fuck it, i bit the bullet and rego'd it in my name, now to derego it and ship it.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
oh after i sell my car to pay for it of course.....

In the late 90's I shipped my Guzzi Le Mans back to NZ. Rolled it off the furniture delivery truck, it still had half a tank of gas, started it up and rode it around to the local NZTA and had a new number plate on it within half an hour.
The only paperwork I needed was the original bill of sale from the bike shop where I purchased the bike.
Still had to pay the GST though!
