Hugger clearance. Is this right?

bought a hugger frm south island
its a brand new part
fitment was ok

today one of my mate cam have look my bike which is waitting for repaint job done, his riding age is more than 40 years,and my guide all the way about motorbike...i trust him
and he said the gap between rear tyre and hugger is too small, something like 2mm or even less at some where
he said tyres would expanded with speed, and contact between hugger and tyre would jam the rear wheel into lock..which could cause fatal of rider...

so, i did send some pics to seller, he thinks its fine,,,the gap looks acceptable,and use some spacer to meet my requist...
this seller told me hendred of this parts been sold and havnt got any problem so far.....

i made anther call and send pic to another friend whos riding sport bike for more than 10years, he also sells bike accessories as well,
he reckon its ok as sport bike tyres wont expend too much, maybe should get on road and try...

im knida scared of this problem,,,who wants got raer whee locked when goes more than 100k/h???

so,,,people, please tell me what do u think of this???

The hugger would have to bloody strong to lock up ya rear wheel if it did touch .

Put some stainless washers between hugger and swingarm 2mm extra height.

Its likely the brand of tyre is taller than most on your bike or you have a 190 or 200 tyre on a 5.5inch rim when 180 is stock etc. Or you have a 60 series tyre instead of 55.

Post up a pic of said hugger,i doubt theres anything to be worried about,as Mossy said there may be an issue wqith tyre profile ie 190/50 v 190/55 on the likes of older bikes like my TL.To put your mind at rest go for a ride then put the bike on a rear stand and start it up let the clutch out and you will have an answer.

Any contact between the tyre and hugger would be gradual ... but not instant and firm enough to cause a lock up of the wheel. You would hear and feel it happening. And every turn of the wheel reduces the outer diameter of the tyre.

Having fitted thousands of tyres and seen my fair share of badly made and fitted huggers your hugger will lose the battle with your tyre. The tyre will cut the hugger in half if it contacts, and yes the tyre will grow at speed but with modern tyres this growth is very small and only happens at yery high speed ie 200 plus. As per the earier suggestion if your worried put some spaces under the hugger mounting points.

will check tyre size, and might rise hugger up abit with stainless washers and secure the hugger better,,,just dun want to leave it in chance

My hugger is pretty damn close ( 190/55 dunno how much, I can't see round corners) and it's never touched. Just remember , if it does touch and slows you down, the tyre will contract again as it slows....

I'd be more concerned that a stone got in there (and it will) and wrenched the hugger and cracked a mount. This will happen a few times before it comes off its mounts completely and jumps into the wheel. THIS will probably lock it up.

hey!!! you are the winner!!! checked my workshop manu then checked my tyre
last owner put 180/55/17 instead of 190/50/17...thats huge diff!!!
now thats all make sence to me as the hugger was design for standard specs...lol
go for shopping now haha~

Won't lock the wheel up, tyres make pretty short work of huggers (they just grind their way through pretty quickly). If it rips it off the mounts it'll spit it out the back, which is a hazard, so it's worth fixing. If it throws it back under the bike, it'll be bang bang gone so fast you've no time to worry about it.

Unless it's kevlar, in which case all bets are off :D (but to be honest that'll still wear, just slowly, and it won't rip the mounts off).

tyres make short work of huggers, I've chewed through a few.. old cbr600s seem to get incontact with their huggers
