Hi all,

As the title suggests, the family and I are coming down to Hamilton the weekend for the rugby, we are looking for a family friendly place to eat on Saturday night as it is my daughters birthday as well.
Pizza, pasta, steak, that sort of thing.
Not to phased on price but cheaper the better.
All help appreciated.

Thanks,
Reggie

Pretty sure you can walk into the Te Rapa Kingsgate for a meal without having to be staying there. However they do great deals for families too. Two restaurants to choose from and well priced and pretty handy to the venue.
Just a thought.

With a Pizza place right next door...all you ever want is at the Base, worth a visit...:niceone:
Free parking also.

The Helm is not far from the stadium by the big yellow Pak&Sav building - so u could walk there and then to the rugby afterwards. If its pissing down then probably not. Disclosure - my misses is the coin counter of the group of bars.

Or the Speights Bar and Grill behind the Pack n' Save by the stadium. Bonus is that it shares the driveway with Hamilton Honda Motorcycles, so you can oogle at bikes before or after your meal. ;)

Gorilla's is not to bad for steaks, burgers etc and theres a really good thai restaurant opposite otherwise both at northern end of victoria street - Hood street and Southern Victoria street have a large number of restaurants, probably my favourite at the moment is Agenda or Pancho's mexican

My vote would go for the Speights Bar and Grill, if it's anything like the one in Dunedin. And if you don't mind looking at Hondas, there's a bonus.

I dig The Helm as well. Always had good meals there and I think it was reasonably priced (been a while though - kid ate my money).

I've heard good things about this too. Never been there though. Could be the Honda thing :)

I heard Pancho's was crap, hang on, that's not the one at Center Place is it? Cause that one is meant to be crap. Agenda I've heard is good.

The folks always like going into Rebo but that's at the casino in the centre of town but it's really well priced.

Whatever you do, for the love of god, stay away from Hog's Breathe! You're better off getting a steak from a fish & chip shop...anyone.

Thanks everyone, we've logged all the names into the wife's phone and she's rung around a few places already.
It's been at least 15 years since I was last in Hamilton and we're looking forward to it.
Anyone going to the game on Saturday night?
Cheers
Reggie

P.S.

Has anyone heard of the furnace, and if so, what is it like?

+1 for the Speights Ale House next to Hamilton Honda. Close to the stadium and motel mile. Both here and The Helm will be jam packed this weekend though

Very nice restaurant that turns into a bar after hours. I would rather go there to dine then drink tho. They are at the northern end by the museum near all the other pubs and clubs
