Won't they then just check and go "Ha, he just bought the rego the morning after, good try!"?

Heya man,
Was your rego expired when you got the ticket and how long ago did it expire. If it expired only a few days ago there could be a chance you can say you did not realise and that you went and got it renewed this morning, as if you are pulled over the officer most times gives you a week or two to get it done. If it expired in the last few days.

It expired on the 2nd of June, i don't think they know that though, the fine was for not displaying my rego, not for not having a valid one.
Ive just bought a full years worth this morning, photo copied it too.
was thinking of writing in saying that i didnt realize it wasnt on my bike and that ive printed a new one that is now on my bike. good idea?
or should i say that it was on my bike? and put it behind my rego plate and take a picture?

Who issued the ticket?
If it was the Police then you are already SCREWED cause they will know it's expired.
If it was any of the councils muppets who issue this sort of ticket because they can, then they might not know your rego is expired but then again Nor do they care, it's revenue and it's easy.
Simple answer, keep your bike registered and put the bloody thing somewhere where it can be seen.

Here's an idea; take it like a man.
You got a ticket for not displaying a rego and you weren't. They prob took photo's.... Tell them the truth and that you have your rego now, they may actually be more helpful. Lie to them an dthey'll prob just enforce it.

I think you're missing the point already raised. They will be able to look up the rego details, will see that you've just re-registered this morning, and will know that you're lying.
By the way, the rego label shows date and time of purchase. Sending them a photocopy or photo is simply compounding your proposed lies.
Tell them the truth - there's a (very) small chance they'll drop it.

I HAD noisy neighbors (bloody renters) and I could almost be rest assured they dont pay their regos - not enough money left over after they paid for their booze. so what I use to do was after their late nite pissups, the next morning around 8am I would check the cars outside (parked on the side of the road - i.e. public) I would always spot someone with unpaid rego - then I called the council which happily came around and fined them.
They wouldnt listen to me when I asked them to turn their fken noise down - they had speakers outside on the deck pointed towards our property - so I told them what I would do - and I did.
Haven't had a problem since - except the obvious hating going around - but hell, the world is full of it!

It's a bit like , if you tell the truth , when you've finished there can be no argument or cross examination, it is what it is, then it's up to them to decide.
If you get lucky and get a nice person who is thinking,""it's Friday, one more day of this shit and I can go home, this guy has come here to face up and has told us the truth, today I am going to let him off"

What kinda douch bag rides an un regoed bike. If you cant afford ya hobby, stick to lego.:bleh:what if can't afford lego either?
of what benefit to me is a "registration"? what do i gain from parting with my money, for the "service" of registration?
(funny story: legally "to register" is "to abandon"... i wonder who everyone abandons their vehicles/ rights to...(and why??))
Who issued the ticket?
If it was the Police then you are already SCREWED cause they will know it's expired.

Simple answer, keep your bike registered and put the bloody thing somewhere where it can be seen. does it matter? it's all on their computer, and there are two different pieces of policy potentially in breach here, one is operating a motor vehicle that at the time of operation was unlicensed without being exempt from licensing. the other failing to display EVIDENCE of current vehicle licensing. of which he has been found summarily guilty.
there are three odd courses of action: one (as above) tell them to stick it up their arse. (which, since you went and paid for rego i'm guessing is unlikely)
two, write and explain that.. whatever. you're a nice guy and feed the ducks and help old ladies across the street, upstanding god-fearin' joe-blow, and would really rather not give them money so pretty please can they downgrade it to a warning because you're short of cash and your mum needs a hip operation and pidgeon food is more expensive nowadays and there aren't many old ladies on the streets any more, but you would help them if you saw them, honest.
three: DO NOT "DISPUTE"
as soon as you dispute shit you're in dishonour (legally) and heading for court (because court exists to settle disputes) you can return them their ticket, with a notice stating various facts, like, you don't feel you should have to pay it, because you've paid for continuous licensing and you weren't aware that it wasn't displayed "correctly" and you've since made the requisite LEGAL changes and you feel that the fine is unfair, unjust and unnecessary.
invariably they will have quoted some legislation you've breached (and on the back of it told you to DISPUTE IT), so go to legislation.co.nz (changed from .govt.nz i wonder why. maybe the legislation is .company policy after all and maybe the .government.. well. another story. i digress.)
go and find their legislation and find yourself a "loophole" and tell them to *uck themselves in (politely)
It would.
It's a bit like , if you tell the truth , when you've finished there can be no argument or cross examination, it is what it is, then it's up to them to decide.
If you get lucky and get a nice person who is thinking,""it's Friday, one more day of this shit and I can go home, this guy has come here to face up and has told us the truth, today I am going to let him off"this may work. it may not. after all you have breached their policy, and their policy on policy breaches is to take your money. but people being people, talking to them nicely can work wonders.
Of course a visit gives a higher chanced of success
+1 to the truth option btwand +1 to this sentiment. but it can be done in writing or on the phone too, however it's done, a neutral/apologetic tone will probably get you further than aggressive or confrontational one.
with miles of experience in dealing with government twerps, i can reasonably say there is no advantage in face-to-face. personally i like having things documented (on paper and signed) so that i can pin shit to some poor sucker's a55, and make his working life that much less pleasant, this usually results in me going in the "too hard, i don't want to get involved with that shit" basket.

Have had tickets cancelled for both lack of rego and expired WOF (oversights on both counts) by getting them sorted the next day, then sending a letter apologising for being a naughty boy and including copies of the new WOF/Rego.
Just be honest, is just as likely to get you off as a load of bollocks (maybe more so).

You could try... not sure that it's worth it or not however... Your bike wasn't registered, and you got a fine for that... Isn't that the whole point of the fine, to then make you go and buy the rego?
Would it have made you happier if the ticket was given during the day?

If Police (who very rarely if ever) give parked vehicles a ticket for no rego? - You could ask for compliance and would probably be granted it..
Not a shit-show with Council - they want that $$ from you!
I would put money on it being a Council ticket.

Apologise, explain you didn't realise that it had expired or whatever and provide evidence that you have renewed it and they may forgive. A few years ago I was at the Post Office purchasing a new rego and when I came out I had a tcket for an expired one. I sent a letter explaining why my rego was expired(I had been overseas) and provided the proof of purchase with the times and so on and they dropped it.
Worth a try.

Invent a time machine, wind the clock back to before the offence was committed, then don't commit it.
Works every time.

Which works? The not committing of offence or the time machine?
