Have been browsing around for top end back protectors with coccyx protection. The Knox Aegis looks to be particularly good, but their variant with coccyx protection is labelled a 'race' protector. Is it a pain to wear it for street use or what's the story?

Nah, get the race version. Your coccyx may thank you one day :niceone:

I think the biggest thing to check is the riding position when you have it on as it's longer (obviously!) than a "regular" back protector. Just my 2c :-)

that applies to all of them tbh: it its too long it buggers up the fit of your jacket and bunts the back of your helmet like surprise prison buttsex. - disincentive to wear it.

but yeah, if it fits its the shit! good on you for wearing one on the street too.

It's fine... I tuck mine into my pants and make it sit in the correct position so it doesn't bump the helmet during use. After a few years of using it, it's curved very nicely to my back so it generally sits right with very little adjustment.

Thanks people, looks like the Aegis race is the goods. I see there's a 30% off sale going on at the knox store for contour back protectors. I'm liking the Aegis myself, but for anyone interested it's a great deal, especially with 20% VAT removed. http://store.planet-knox.com/search/?search=contour

I have the contour race and it is a long bugger but comfy and supportive. I don't use it on the road but it makes your body stay in a good position so it's one less thing to think about. I love mine. Not too bad in warm weather either. They're a nice unit.

And the cool bottle opener dog tag ID thing I got was the bomb :D

Not sure where you are at with this but have you tried Qmoto for a price? I know they do Knox here in NZ. I have this one:

http://store.planet-knox.com/knox-armour/upper-body/13/aegis-race-back-protector-with-coccyx/

and its great for racing as you are always tucked in...I'm guessing for cruising on a sit up bike it would be a bit shit...not sure what you are riding but position on the bike would dictate comfort with these products as they are all top notch gear!

Checked out Qmoto, they are $329 for the race version. I ordered the race verson aegis from the UK - www.twowheel.co.uk and got it for $238 NZD total cost shipped and that's without them removing 19% VAT that I could see. Unfortunately they shipped the 8 plate standard protector without coccyx despite the clear order. So yeah, fuming about that. They have apologised and have set aside the right one. So spent $50 odd for shipping back to them yesterday which will leave me at $288 total cost.

I'll be using the protector for everyday use on a sportbike. What's it like to sit on a chair or something while wearing it?

Bugger!!! I'd be asking them to pay the shipping cost too!

My one is comfy as and I don't really sit in chair with it on so can't comment. I'd say it would be ok for little while but might be annoying after a while...after all they are designed for sports bikes.
