I am all for the government saving money...really I am! But a fantastic channel is about to be closed down...tvnz 7. (anyone who has a thirst for learning about new things and the world around them probably already knows TVNZ 7...it rocks)

For those that have not yet had the fortune of viewing TVNZ 7, it is a free to air channel that has a raft of amazing documentaries and educative programmes about engineering, business, the natural world (all of the BBC stuff...Blue Planet, Oceans, BBC Earth etc.) , social issues, politics to name just a few...some are a bit dull but many are incredibly informative and interesting. It is the only channel free to air dedicated to educating people about the world that we live in, and it is going to be shut down soon.

While all of the other channels are awash with crap like The GC, Masterchef country X, Shortland Street and a raft of crappy soaps, TVNZ 7 actually has content that can make viewers smarter, more educated about how the world they live in works and more aware of their global society. I don't know about you guys...but I see this as a valuable resource.

The link below shows some of the docos etc. that they show

http://tvnz.co.nz/documentaries-on-tvnz-7/ta-ent-documentaries-tvnz-7-index-group-3173709

If you give even a small crap about retaining this channel, go sign the online petition. (Although...what government ever listened to what the people wanted anyway! But hey, if you don't at least try.......)

The petition can be signed here:

Cheers for reading, I don't normally post crap like this...but I stumbled across TVNZ 7 a while ago...and it is freaking awesome. (at least for someone like me who thirsts for knowledge!)

pah... I read an article somewhere that said that the funding for TVNZ 7 was already in place for next year... which seems a little odd that they're canning it. Hey ho.

Yeah...I am not the lobbying type usually! Agreed with the earlier poster though...what's the chance of the powers that be actually give a crap about what 'the people' want....

what's the chance of the powers that be actually give a crap about what 'the people' want....To be fair, the greater percentage of New Zealanders are stupid hicks who couldn't exercise their brains or extend their minds even if they tried... so TBH I suspect they actually are giving the majority of people what they want. It is ironic that those are the people who could benefit the most... but really I'd rather the state didn't force it upon them... coons watching Shortland Street are coons not committing burglaries...

John just says...."We told you so...":tugger:

Sooner or later it'll be NatRad.....Ive got a feeling that they dont want an unbiased opinion in the Media.
Its like there is not a mention on the telly about the "John "Key auction on trademe & its not mentioned at all on trademes' wots cool....
Fairfax aint they?
We have had so many changes to "our" countries laws & so much meddling in all sorts of areas by this Govt. that I feel they are cluster fucking us with so many issues that people are unable to concentrate on anything or everything....divide & conquer.
I think also that the people who frequent such places as NatRad & TVNZ 7 will be those with a higher IQ.
I wont be able to stomach T.V once its gone, the tiresome fascile simplistic drivel of endless cooking shows & crime.

Signed. In full agreement regards to this being a bloody good TV Channel and one well worth keeping.
Here we go again though, cost cutting.
Austerity here we come.

I feel old. 30 years ago TV1 screened the type of documentaries and informed debates now only available on TV7. The Brits still run BBC1 as their serious channel.

If TV1 ran this stuff the ordinary punter would be much more likely to stumble across it and might just get interested. Is that too much for us to ask??

As long as it doesn't clash with the Kardashians.

I'm gonna miss Doco of the Week... the one they showed tonight, Dive, should be shown in schools.
