Hi all!
Just wondering if anyone had any experience of the Boom Rock track? - it's kinda between Johnsonville and Makara in the Ohariu/Takakarau valleys (I can't spell that T-valley). I had a friend do a lap in a car and he told me about it.
Who owns it? What goes on there? Why haven't I heard about it? Would they allow moderate motorcycle racing (Buckets, post-classic F3...) for a fee? Has anyone actually raced it? What's it like?
CAN WE RACE THERE? If it's private, I'm sure that the owner would be open to negotiations i.e. a day-by-day group fee?

I believe Mercedes Benz paid for it to be built and control it. Don't like your chances of getting to use it.

I've been on it.
I wouldn't bother going up there to race bikes, it's far from ideal. There are better venues for the purpose around.

More specific answers:
Race? It's more like a 'test track' I imagine it may not be so much fun trying to race on it, plus there are likely to be issues with insurance if it is run as a private training and/or test facility. I'm not in the know about that, just a hunch.
It's fantastic for it's purpose but that isn't bike racing. If you want to race F3 or posties; Manfeild and Taupo are far more appropriate and would work immeasurably better, same goes for buckets and kart tracks.
Why not try that?

Would those be the guys doing the cooking competitions ?
I see Suzuki used it for a car press intro recently. Don't be so quick to dismiss it's possibilities for buckets either. At some point they've got to get round to having it approved by Motorsport NZ - when that's done there should be openings for the bike clubs.
Another circuit is always good.
