Oxford Hot Grips: I stuffed up

The glue dried too quickly and my grip isnt all the way on :doh: :mad: :(

any ideas on how to fix this?

Very thin screwdriver down the inside of the grip to break free the superglue, give it a twist as well...Been there done that...

User acetone (aka, nail polish remover) to melt the glue, and try again.

ps. When you do put them on leave a small gap at the end of the grip so the grip can rotate freely against the throttle assembly. Also make sure there is no glue on the end of the grip butting up against the throttle assembly.

I was going to suggest something similar. I have used a piece of buiding "tie" wire as a bond breaker. You push it carefully thru the bond along the handle bar and then rotate it which may or may not work with the hotgrips as they have a formed shape to them. With ordinary rubber grips it seems to work well. If it does work in breaking the bond, you can then use it to slip in some lubricant to aid sliding it off. I suppose detergent is better than WD40. The easiest way ... turn it up hot for a bit and after whatever time (10 minutes?) you'll just be able to push it on the rest of the way. I find that if I have mine on at the second temperature setting I can twist the grip around after about 12/15 minutes riding. (When I say twist it's not like it'll slip around when I'm riding but when stopped if I apply a bit of steady pressure the grip will move ... as opposed to slipping easily. (I don't know if mine were super-glued though. Shop-fitted for just the very reason this thread was started).

I had something similair, when I fitted mine, using too much superglue, I glued the throttle shut. I posted about it on here incidentally.

Turn the grips on max for a few mins (might pay to have the motor running so you dont drain the battery) then work away with acetone and a thin screw driver. Remember when you get the grip off to clean all the old glue crud off, and wipe off any acetone, so you have a fresh slate.

Make sure you test fit the grip without super glue to make sure its all kocher, then pull the grip off, and put a few lines along the bar, avoiding each ends, and slam it on. Wipe off any excess superglue straight away.

Easy (the second time).

a) never glue them.

b) never put them on a R6.

If you ever need to get glued grips off:

Cut the bottom out of a coat hanger so you have a straight wire, then bend it into a hand crank with one side long enough to go right down the grip. Slip it in between the grip and the bar and crank it. It will spin around the bar and rip off the glue.

Buts its sooo cold in the mornings / evenings.

If I didnt glue the throttle one it would just twist around and/or fall off.
