Not a bitch at cops in general or anything like it but jesus H the cop over on the coast that gets a call, hits the lights etc then goes up and over the crest of the hill mostly on the wrong side of the road made me shudder somewhat. As i watched it happening i said to the mrs "god help anyone coming the other way here" thankfully there wasnt.Very surprised it was used in the programme to be honest.Anyone else notice see it?

And did you hear the other sozzled bimbo say "Aw but the car's never even crashed yet" when it was pointed out how unsafe it was??

The crash was on the Hope saddle. So it was a bit further up than the coast. The bit I saw ... was a bit of a straight stretch and didn't seem to be going that quickly. Not much room for cars ahead of him to get out of his way either.

Slippery bit of road at times - had back wheel slide due to compression lock-up a couple of times heading down it (towards Nelson) on the T-Sport on a wet day.

The Cops 'round here have to deal with quite a bit of carnage & police the roads hard 'cause there"s fark all crime eh

Further more he know all the traffic was stopped at the accident site. As far as I could see, he ensured there was 100m of road ahead at all times too.
Remember, there is also a chance the camera sits lower than a person does in the car too.....

Yup.... his fine was nothing compaired to the revinue our kiwi driver had to pay for doing 80k on Phillip Island when an 80 zone magically became a 60 zone as the policeman was waiting around the corner!
It totally sucked that one...
NZ police say keeping the traffic all at one speed is the safest way...
Aussies think it is better to change the speed zones around intersections to keep drivers on their toes.... Go figure (and see the error in their ways?).

Yeah... I hear your concern...
If you see the land scape lighting up, and hear the whur whur noise, there is a pretty good chance you would have plenty of time to jump
into the left wheel track, I reckon ;)
Also in this case the car parked on its roof might be a clue ;)

Okay, just watched it again... (thanks my sky)... I see what you are saying... YES he did come up to a crest in the road, and it looked blind.
However, the camera is actually mounted at the height of the dash, so Kelvin Duff would be able to see more, being a full sized person....
Not defending actions at all, but he did pull back onto his side to let on coming traffic through, so was taking due care in my opinion..

The young guy was always in the court news but I don't recall his name now. I remember that on that particular day the prosecuting sergent had a bit of fun. As each person was called up to face the music he would have a sheet indicating the person's previous record for his honour to review if necessary. When the young hoodlum got to the dock the sergent picked up the guy's record sheet but sort of let it fall open and it was a lineflow paper record that reached down to the sergent's knees. There was muffled laughing around the court and the sergent was trying hard not to smile.

He should have just manned up and taken it graciously. It was only a $30 fine?
I do think the tolerance should be 10kph for everyone though.
Last weeks programme showed that basically, if I get pissed off by anyone on the road, I can call *555 and tell an unsubstantiated story about their driving to get them ticketed purely on my heresay! Awesome.
Or as Brooke Howard Smith would say "Shame on you! NZ Police!"

All vehicles should be able to go 100 this 90/100 split is just stupid & dangerous, that trucker program that was on showed at what lengths people would goto to get past a truck.
You can't just *555 someone to get them a ticket (that just gets them a letter), you actually have to formally report them. Involves filling a form etc usually at a cop shop.

If you are refering to the aussie that got the ticket for crossing the centre line ... it was not a *555 call as such. The cop spoke to the lady making the complaint personally. AND ... Got her details should a court appearance was necessary.

It must be frustrating for the cops when on camera, they can't say what they are thinking. :argh:
That kid's attitude is typical of too many these days, (including some members here), "The rules are stupid and I shouldn't have to obey them and if I get caught it is the stupid rules and stupid cops who are to blame for my misfortune!"
And yes, he would have blamed the cop for his, (now ex..?), girlfriend having to walk.

About it.My old lady works at a 111 call center, shes always said if anyones in any doubt as to how fucked up this country is they should spend a weekend working in there.
Apparently the number 1 type of call to 111... "fuck you PIGs" & worthless calls like that (& people scared the doles gonna be cut off cause National got in) tie up 80% of the 111 call centers time

Not the wisest of things to do. All calls to 111 come up with the number calling. Even blocked numbers are shown. Numbers to and from that phone can also be used to find the caller if it has no registered owner. Should the Police want to bother doing it of course ...

Not to mention the many that dial 111 cause they cant get on the internet (true story, mainly old folk).People ring up to report fires that dont exist etc etc etc.

When working weekends its just domestic call after call, people beating up wives/kids etc.Long weekends and the holidays being the worst.Every year she reckons it peaks just after Christmas day, moneys been spent on presents (if the kids are lucky) and there no money for booze so mum gets the bash, fucking sad way to live. The shit some cops must have to walk into.

If you are refering to the aussie that got the ticket for crossing the centre line ... it was not a *555 call as such. The cop spoke to the lady making the complaint personally. AND ... Got her details should a court appearance was necessary.
He says, she says. Cop gets his quota ( oops, I mean "performance target" ) for the day and it costs money and time to appear to defend it. The guys was a tourist so unlikely to be here to defend it anyway. If the lady who reported him had a dash camera or some kind of evidence, then fair enough. But no. Just a policeman with a camera crew to impress and obviously nothing else to do. Imagine how you'd feel if a cop turned up at your house to give you a ticket for lane splitting on the eyewitness account of some nobody you passed on the way home. It's bollocks and I doubt it would stand up in court. It's the polices job to enforce the law ( they go to police college to learn how ) Not Joe Blogs.
Just sayin'

I live/drive/work in the area that Aussie was driving through. Crossing the centreline on the roads around here ... is a big problem with tourist traffic. Most accidents reported in the local papers lists the country of origin of those involved ... seldom are kiwi's involved ... except as a victim.
Oh ... we have two lanes here ... one each way. Splitting isn't an option most choose.
