Sheesh, you must have a big shed for all your wants.

Back in the day one of my dad's workmates used to race a GS (and an RD). Everywhere.
He reckoned it was the best handling of the crop at the time & perfect for wheelies. The balance point is just when the tail light touches down. So he says and I have seen him with the bike in that position at over 100mph. He was overtaking me at the time..
Very talented rider but he it was bin or win so he never got anywhere.

Think Kens to busy building the Manx reps to build up the frame kits, some one should lease the jigs and build them and pay Ken a royalty. If you could make one to fit the Kawa engines even better as a bigger customer base.
Steve Roberts could make the plastic fantastic also just do the frame kits.

Ken never built xr69's.

No offence to ken, but trident engineering (which who are building these things) xr69 make any Mc look very average. Has to be seen to be believed.

I'd rather spend my money on the xr (and I've owned 2x Mcintoshes)

Spa was brilliant. The bike was fast and the guys had fitted new tyres too. Fri a bit slow while I ran in new pistons and then rained all day. Sat onwards and once I got a handle on the track again it was all o, though still quite cautious as quite a few wobblers. Did a lap of the full length 14km circuit . I was front of the plebs so was in with a few stars like braun, read etc. what a circuit!

Who cares about road riding.

36k kiwi is less than half the cost of a poxy manx norton. I know which I'd have in a heart beat and of it ain't got a tuning fork on the tank I'd not normally be interested.

These are essentially the most speccy pre 82 4 stroke you can get. Replica or not you are getting works level chassis. Michael Dunlop did a touch under 120mph av lap at the Manx... Think that answers everything.

As much as I'd sell various intimate parts of my body for a McIntosh, the XR69 is in a similar but different league. "World Famous in Australasia" vs truly "World Famous". And just looking at welding around the steering head on that XR69 gives me a chubby.

Crasher you should inform the plebs as to the history of the XR69, my limited knowledge is they were raced in the formula 1 world champs for bikes up 1000cc which they won with Croz in 1980/81 , also used on the Isle of Man, Suzuka, endurance races etc. They were a full factory backed bike run through Heron Suzuki in the UK.
I doubt there would be more than 10 genuine examples made so chances of buying one and racing it pretty slim so that's why the reps are built.

Need to check my Suzuki race bike book but there were a few built over about 3-4 years. 1980 were twinshock like the ex crozier bike here. Then they went full floater. You can get the reps now as either. They were also used in the 8 hour and 24 hour races by the endurance teams.

ktm84mxc
4th July 2012, 12:19
You may indeed be correct Malcy a lot of the endurance teams also used frames by Nico Bakker and Egli to house there engines the endurance races were huge affairs with dedicated teams just for these events , there was a world endurance champs normally dominated by the French factory teams of Kawasaki , Honda and Suzuki.
Laverda entered the prototype class with a 1200 cc V6 was said to be a missile down the straights but its bulk hindered in the corners.
Suzuki's GS1200SS is a rep of the early XR69 which should have been sold in Texaco or GP colours.

Suzuki NZ told me they couldn't get me one, yet one of the dealers out your way or Tauranga had three. I was pissed off. Purchased an RMZ450 instead and nearly lost my foot. Makes the GS1200SS look even better looking back!

GSXR1100 cams, carbs and ignition...150hp here we come. Still comfortable to boot. One of the most under rated bikes avail in NZ for a long time. Especially as they retailed them at one stage for 10999.00.

I'd still like one. With a turbo unit.

ktm84mxc

Yep that's the colour to get , add a bit of yellow piping and Texaco stickers .
There was a blue/white one for sale a while ago in Whanganui next colour to get.
So easy to get serious HP from them, then fit Ohlins shocks and fork kits to finish off.

I was pit crewing at the Spa 4 hour post classic race on sat. Night, the kit being used is out of this world. Was won by Stephan Mertens and Patrick Orban. I think Patrick Orban. Rode here in the Marlboro series in 76.
They were riding a dholes Honda. Field was eclectic but overt subscribed with 70 starters out of 80 accepted entries. P&m's Nicos, bimota's tridents guzzis by the doz. hardly any std frame bikes.

Been a hell of a 10 day period as I literally went up and back for this.

The biggest shitter is that my new on bike camera played up and I got no HD footage on bike. I got some around the pits including some chick getting a photo shoot in front of the bike I was riding, and some low def on bike stuff with a borrowed camera.

Oh and the guys I was with (and who own the bike) who'd come across from the UK, were in the 4 hour endurance so had a F1 pit lane garage. So no slumming outside.

I dunno, I'm kinda ol' school or no school with this sorta stuff. It's like comparing a new mustang with a 60/70's mustang, the new 'un shits all over the old 'un in every measurable way but somehow the new 'un is still a pale imitation. With an ol' '70 clunker in the shed so no prizes for guessing what my preference is towards. It shits me to tears at times but the 40 year old unsanitised driving experience is the real deal, not a copy...for better or worse, lol.

Given an unlimited sized shed and spare cash I'd rather buy something old and drag it forward a bit without destroying the essence of it, than try and give something new hints of times gone by.

But it's about what the individual wants and needs from the car/bike.....and it's their money so whatever smokes your tyres, eh?
