Yello all, just trying to establish a feasible riding time between Taradale and Acacia Bay, Taupo.
Couple of mates went over this road a couple of months back and reckon it took about 1 1/2 hours.
Haven't ridden over it since it was done up but have driven over lately in a car and truck, so I think they
might be pushing things a bit, cheers

1.5 hours sounds about right.

2 hours with a good long stop would be about right, roads are good depending on weather conditions at the time this road has different weather patterns at different times of the day.

I do it regularly and always allow 2 hours.
I tend to sit on 110/115kph with the odd short blat now an then.

1.5 sounds about right at a moderate 110-125km thought it will be likely without any stops...2 hours if you include a decent fuel stop and coffee.

I did it in 63min in a car last time I there.

Taradale to Taupo is near-150k exactly. IF you can AVERAGE 100kph, then you'll do it in 1.5 hours. Good luck with that.
1 hour 40 minutes is more realistic.
Remember - this road is heavily used by slow B-trains and Mabels, with significant stretches being difficult or dangerous to pass and is also one of the most heavily patrolled. So maintaining that high average speed means some very naughty behaviour.

I drove from Napier to Taupo for work once last year and passed 5 Popo along the way. Very highly patrolled road that one.

It's a great road to lose your licence on if you're in a hurry. Give yourself two hours and get there early.

Not as quick as you used to get away with.

One thing to remember is that there are NO gas stations on this road so make sure you have enough petrol.:niceone:

Maps says 151km 1:54. Knock 10-15 minutes off that for being on a bike.
