Obviously we all know the delights of riding a bike, the proof is that we are on here singing the praises of this activity that adds a part to our lives as nothing else can.

But what are you doing to spread the word?

My contribution for the last 2 years has been to introduce biking to the life of young riders, and this School Holidays I am doing it again:

MX Holiday Programme In HB (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/150775-July-School-Holiday-MX-Programme-in-Hawke-s-Bay?p=1130351790#post1130351790) We now have a few bikes for the ones who do not yet have one, giving them the opportunity to "try before they buy".

I have also got two of my boys hooked. There are a few ladies who, as a result of getting to know me, now ride bikes. And in my younger years I was active in clubs that promoted the "lifestyle".

Got the girlfriend riding. Don't want to be responsible for anyone else getting into it. Have had a few mates ask but I can just see them ending up in a ditch and I know I would feel partially responsible if that did happen.

Yea I'm sorta with sil3nt ^
If a mate wants to get into biking I'll help em out, but I'm not about to go converting people.
I think bikes should be left to those that want/love them, generally this would come from childhood. They're just too dangerous to be converting people to the lifestyle, sure I'd talk about it & how great it is but the decision must be their own IMO.

But what are you doing to spread the word?
Absolutely nothing.

First off there will be less free parking spaces for me and secondly they can hurt. If anyone is convinced by my adrenaline fueled grin when I get to work on the shittiest of days then I might give them a few pointers, otherwise I think people should come to their own decision. No different to religion really.

Apart from the sodomy, obviously.

In my experience if someone wants to ride they will follow it up themselves, or they won't last.
It's amazing how many mates GFs and wives are secretly turned on by seeing sports bikes in my garage, but there is no way their man is going to have one. :nono::baby:

I don't trust any of my mates to stay alive more than 5 minutes riding, so I tell them how good it feels on a bike and leave it at that.

The govt. are trying to fix that last part for you with virtual sodomy via ACC levies etc.

The difference to religion is I wont evangelise. People know I ride and I enjoy it but for me it is more a transport option than religion or lifestyle. If people want to ride I will talk to them about it, including the hassards, and assist where I can but they have to make the choice firstly and honestly.

Have to own to assisting at least two onto motorised two wheels because they wanted to. Scary when they do their first big ride or when they text to tell you they've had an off.

I wish I could convince more people to get into it. Most just write it off as being too dangerous. Which sucks, cos I'd love to go on weekend rides with mates..

Sorry I didn't know it was compulsory?
I don't go out of my way to get others involved, I might get labelled a bad influence if I did!
Bought my 5 year old boy a QR50 for his birthday though :)

Nothing! Everybody who is not a biker is intent on telling me how dangerous it is!

The only ones open-minded are the big islander guys at the petrol station filling up their 7-seater people-movers asking me how much petrol I use/dollars I save using the motorbike...

My mates are all too pussy to ride a bike, no matter how much I try to convince them.

To be honest, I'm sick of all the jibes about the danger involved. I wear full armoured leathers, boots, gloves, helmet etc how much more protected can I be compared to a lycra clad goober on a bike, capable of 60+!

Ah but they have a helmet and sunglasses, their heads and eyes are well protected!

I wonder if someone will invent air-bag lycras for the cyclists? "Is that a CO2 cartridge in your pants or are you happy to see me?"

Agreed. I never recruit anyone to the darkside, even when they say they thinking about getting into it I dont encourage it.

I find that when I hang my handbag from the handlebars it gets in the way when I try to look my self in the mirror while I am riding.
So I was considering fitting a bigger mirror in the middle over those clock looking things.

What a catastrophe! I had a problem with my low bars and reaching my handbag to get my nail polish. :(

My dear, you are doing it all wrong... you need fingerless gloves like those rough tough harley dudes, and apehangers; BIG apehangers... then the nail polish will dry quickly in the wind as you ride AND you will never lose your handbag off the end of the bars <----- far more important than the nail polish stuff

I try and get as many people interested as I can. I have taught a couple of irish guys the joys of getting out to the middle of nowhere on dirtbikes, neither having ridden before. Both are now back in Ireland and both still riding, one guy still only rides off road but the other is now a keen road rider as well. I take heaps of young fellas out riding and most of them continue to ride. I like to encourage people to start out riding off road as I belive it develops a whole lot of handling skills that you dont pick up from road riding.:headbang:

I did try get one mate in to bikes, didn't work. Gave him my helmet/gloves/jacket and the keys to the incredigay 36rwhp Spada, he rode it to the end of the block (about 50m) and back, said it was too scary.

Got my brother interested when he decided he'd find the CB400 keys, he loves bikes, but hasn't yet got one, he used to take my Spada on decent rides.
Got another two mates in to "real" bikes, they had 200-250cc single cyl Hondas and perfectly content with them, I let them play on the CB400, one has now just sold his ZX6R the other has an FZR400 3TJ:niceone:

None of them have handbags though, so this is why they're not as cool as GrayWolf, Conquiztador and myself.

Those clock looking things are your popularity & prettiness meters. you want to keep those needles as high as possible, if you want to stay with the "in crowd"
