Stopped my Tour Coach in Taihape yesterday and a couple of us had a feed at Soul Food cafe in the main st. The place was busy but the staff were friendly and efficient, the service was very quick, the $5 plate of fries could easily have served two people,in fact I gave some of my fries away and still couldn't finish them all, the $5 fish burger was fine without being exceptional and the milkshake tasted the way they used to in the "old days".

I would certainly eat there again. Is it Biker friendly I hear you ask? I don't know but they certainly provided a great service. Highly recommended.

Also visited Lindale just off SH1 nearer Wellington. A small cluster of shops, cafe, candy/chocolate shop etc. Nice clean toilets, chocolate shop was great, the cafe plays 70s, 80s, 90s music, coffee was good and the cake slices were way bigger than you would get in Auckland for the same price. Would stop there again too. Woman I spoke to said that times are a little tough and the Kapiti Cheese and Ice Cream shop have closed but the candy shop sells Kapiti Ice Cream.

Plenty of parking there too.

Is that the cafe just into the side street where the hunting and fishing shop is on the corner?

Or am I thinking of the Brown Sugar Cafe - yeah, that's my recommendation in Taihape. It was always a compulsory stop when heading up or down SH1.

Its on the main Rd, SH1, Number 69 I think, left side heading North, North end of town.
