I'm going on the MMMMM ride in 3 weeks and are looking for a skid / bash plate for the wee strom.
The oil cooler, oil filter, zorst and part of the sump are well exposed so I need a sturdy bash plate. The other option is to make my own which I'm seriously considerring but I thought I'd have a trawl first.
2nd hand is fine.

The Avon City Strom 650 mk2 demo had one fitted-from the Aussie specialists[cant remember name-B&M?]who do carry racks etc. Boy was it ugly:which I guess is not the point! Anyway contact Avon city suzuki-I assume a mk2 plate will fit a Mk1?

Hi paturoa -
I got my bashplate online from the makers in Oz: BB Offroad (http://www.bboffroad.com.au/dl650_v_strom.htm) - it was around $300 plus shipping.
It's a meaty beast of a thing and of true 'bash' strength - there are scars on the bottom of mine as evidence it works...:eek5: I was initially a little concerned about the mounting system - the front uses a bracket that bolts to the oil cooler mounts and front cylinder exhaust studs, so though the load is spread I wondered if it's expecting too much of the front cylinder, so far it's proved fine. The supplied hardware is of great quality and the plate has certainly saved the vulnerable bits you mention. One 'feature' you may not expect: there's definitely more engine noise transmitted to the rider with the plate on...
I'll hunt out my previous thread with pics and link here soon - hope this helps, cheers. Now done - here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/100932-Bash-plate-Hall-of-Shame/page10?highlight=bashplate) - scroll down for a pic of mine when nice and shiny...
