View Full Version : Custom gasket makers?

Seems the gasket at the manifold brokded itself and I was told that there was none in the country. I was hoping for something a little less than a 3 week wait for one, probably just order a kit at some point and I believe that it's a slightly thicker gasket than normal and it was suggested that I got some gasket paper and put one in temporarily, but that's something I'd rather not do... so does anyone know of anywhere in the Welly area that does custom gaskets?

Probably just the only part they don't have in stock on NZ knowing my luck... I'd order one from the states but the minimum charge is $40US for shipping and it's a $20NZ part. Might have to make a call or two to Oz and see if they have any if there ain't no folk over here that can make one.
Maniseal for now.
Heh, I just ain't that brave and I ain't going through the pain of putting all them fuckin bits back on only to take them off again in a few weeks time. The zorst bolts were a bastard to get to and it didn't slide off east and involved much deep breathing and my entire repertoire of swear words forming colourful sentences. Glad the kids were in bed.

Aye, I remember seeing and reading that thread and can't believe that they didn't source the part from the global network (if such a thing exists, which seems highly unlikely). I had a similar issue with some of the bits for my bike, albeit just the plastics. The day I picked the Prila up the trainee had dropped it whilst pushing it up on to the inspection ramp... took 10 months to get some plastic bits, but at lest she were functional. Can't remember how long it took them to replace the swingarm, but it was longer than a few months.

Aye, I remember seeing and reading that thread.
I think it was warranty related. I could be wrong on that though. But there were serious issues by Aprilla NZ dealers ...

No. These ones aren't copper. They have a silverish metal coated in gasket material. The gasket material, where they bolt to the exhaust, are fooked.

You're right. They coulda sourced the part from Aprilia US quit easily, but the ins and outs and rules and regs always seem to get in the way. T'was feckin tragic to read... can't blame him for getting rid at all.

there need be nothing temporary about it. although possibly beyond your tooling/skillz? (hole punches?)
take what's left of the old one to any factory that has engineers onsite, particularly if they have lots on nice shiney flanged stainless pipework outside - they will be able to sort you out for beer.

I have to say that a flat gasket like that would take about 20min max to make,
As you have the original gasket, and as you say, its the bolting points that are stuffed,
There is no problem. it is a pattern that any semiskilled pipe fitter could reproduce with his eyes glazed from a night o the piss.
The two links given in this thread are good, either one would be more than able to cut a simple gasket like that.

http://christchurchgaskets.co.nz/ind..._products.html.
You should be able to get it done within 2-3 days. so get them to make a dozen,
Because if it is a reoccurring problem, you have spares of your own.
There could be other owners with the same problem.
And you may recover the costs by on selling to them...
Might even be cheaper to get a doz, than import one,
Defiantly Faster
