Effective range is stated as 1.6km. You switch it on and it sort of whistles while it fires up. Takes a minute or so to reach full power, and by that time you can't even look at the reflection on a wall.
I may be doing a night demo down the Waikato some time soon, rellies are on a farm at Hinuera.
Yeah, not cheap, but Streamlight USA supply Military, Police, security and emergency services world-wide, so they are built to military specs. You get the best of the best for the price.

35W HIDs are an easy retrofit, but the trick is to get the wider angle automotive ones. Must be some precision optics in there to get to 1.6km!

The parabolic reflector is a work of art and the filament looks like nothing I've ever seen before.

The only practical use I can think of for that monster, is bolted to a helicopter for a search light. Or a back up light for a train.:niceone:

It is a searchlight and used mainly by military and security services but also in forestry and other large area situations. Could be good for farming and marine too.

I can see why ol Ed is smitten, what a weapon! Hand warmer at 3 feet plus easily. Unable to look at the business end from any angle out front, just too bright and this was at about 10.30am.
Safe trip Mr Light man.

I bought myself a 700Lumen LED 4D cell monster for Possum spotting. My mates bitch at me when I pull the sucker out on camping trips because they know one flash and their night sight is fucked for ages.
But your torch is just taking the piss mate!
WTF do you need a search light for? Are you afraid that Ze Germans are coming?

Well, I need it as much as anyone needs 200hp from their road bike. It is pure lust to someone like me who loves gadgets!
The next one down only goes 1km.
I might try it out tonight and see if I can spot my mate across the estuary... ;)

Tried it out across the estaury. My mate took a pic of it. It must be at least 1.5km across to his place and he said it was unbelievably bright! I don't know what other people might have been wondering but I didn't play too long. It daylighted the whole paddock across from our place.
If you look slightly to the right of centre between the two palms in the street, as far as you can see to the top of the horizon where the patch of new grey roofed houses are. Jamie's place is right at the top under the tree line.
