Have a look at this.
A rodent came to visit and had a good feed on all the Palm Oil based plastics on my Goldwing.
BTW. There are a lot of other bikes being eaten.
It seems that in an effort to go green the move away from petrolium based soft plastics and rubber has prompted this.

1 Riders Seat 1350.50
1 LH Pillion Seat Grab Handle 126.50

After seeing for myself the deforestation in Borneo caused by the palm plantations I'd say the same thing with a serious hat on. Sorry, but I would prefer to use up the underground resources first before pulling down habitats like that.

Palm oil is far from green. Ask Cadburys.
Fuck I hate hippies but maybe I is one?

Hope the rat choked on it.
How the fuck is Palm Oil "green" anyhow? Poor Orangutangs. Cadbury didn't find palm oil a good substitute, made the chocolate taste yuk.
Make the plastics from sugar, Fiji could do with the income.

Never heard anyone boycotting Ford or Honda because of palm oil usage. Did they dodge that bullet?

Do people know? From what I can see a lot companies don't really give a shit. Look at the farmers, importing tonnes of what they class as byproduct for cattle feed. Even good old Sanitarium stuff it in their cereals. I reckon the only reason Cadbury did anything was that there is an alternative in NZ.

Four thousand dollars for a wiring loom?
That just seems absurd, I mean, imagine if it was you, not the insurance company that had to fork out for it (well, I guess that's an odd statement, as we are all paying for it in our premiums), but, shit, that is lots of money for a wiring loom.

Maybe the hippies have already boycotted falcon ownership. J1 bedfords are much more green anyway.

$4050 for labour is what surprises me. Even at $80/hr thats 50 hours. Apart from waiting for parts you shouldn't have had it in for more than a week should you - or is replacing the wiring loom/s harder than I think. I don't think replacing the radiator hose, riders seat, pilliuon grab handle, top radiator cover and grommet cover and refilling the radiator should have taken more than a day.
Mind it is a Goldwing, so you've got the power to the airconditioning, all the the stereo and bluetooth connections, power to the heated grips, brake and clutch lever, seat, footpegs, power and controls to the adjustable seat, the reverse, and all the other bells and whistles. So maybe this charge isn't as outrageous as I first thought. But all the connections should just be plug in, it's not as if they have to be soldered.

Surprise is the understatement of the year!

On something like a goldwing, there's every chance that large components had to be removed to facilitate getting the new one in.

Why did I hit submit? I wasn't finished.
Most of those hours would be in the assessment before fixing it was even thought of.

I've pulled motors out of Goldwings Drew.
It's not a particularly difficult or time consuming job.

Wouldn't think it is, but comletely pulling it down and looking for gnawed on bits certainly would be.

I was told that its a back to the frame strip of everything..., then re-fit . They seemed to be of the opinion that it would take a week to complete. Im told the plastics even smell good to the buggers. Talk about meals on wheels. The local shop said they have quite a few quads in as well as the odd bike. Mo DR trailie was also nibbled but I was able to sort that out myself. Got 2 rats so far and had a heap of poison removed from the bait stations. The cat got 1 as well. I have 2 gin traps and a cage trap.

So you'd be in the market for one of those plug it in the wall type sonic rat scaring off things then.
Darn sure I would be after that lot.:(
Mind you,my loom is worth about $50 an I can remake an replace the lot in a morning +beers.

Abso-bloody-lutely :niceone:. Indonesia and Malaysia in particular have been bowling over native forest to plant palms. Trouble is, it's a pretty sterile environment which doesn't support native animals.

My Wing is 2009. I have seen a Zappa which delivers thousands of volts that looks interesting. I would like do send a load of 00Buckshot at the buggers though.

I had a Rat problem at a previous rental and caught a rather large fooker in a trap. The trap didn't kill it but the blow to the head with a spade certainly did. I'd have taken a much slower approach to killing it if my bike had been chewed on. Hemp covered lounge suites are another mouth-watering commodity to rodents, as a friend of mine discovered the hard way.

I have seen rats eat copper wave guide cable (think large plastic cover water pipe, used on cell phone towers) so I don't think they have very cultured taste buds. But palm oil may make it taste better, I have also seen quads eaten by cows the only plastic left was the parts under the carriers that they could not reach.

$4500 incl the front loom. Yeah I call bullshit on that. The cost of the wiring itself wouldn't account for 2or3% of that. Just how much does it cost for labour and connectors to make a loom when everything is mapped out?

I can see how Blue Wing turn that into $4500. Granted not all the components would be necessary but the main loom alone has a MSRP of NZ$2053

You'll notice on my link they sell it for $1432, but remember this is Blue Wing. The same outfit that will sell you a rear seat cowl for $620, when I landed one here from America, retail plus all taxes and freight for $280.

At least you can get parts from Bluewing. I'm still waiting for parts from Triumph NZ (read as ripoff cunts) since 04.
I just noticed mouse prints on one of my vehicles in my workshop and have just brought some bait stations and put them around the shop. I normally would not use them as I ususlly have my dog with me but all the talk about vermin has made me a little paranoid.

This example of price gouging by the parts supplier and repairer is what sees so many cosmetically damaged bikes written off and drives up the insurance premiums for all of us.

We had a rat living in our flat 30 years ago - he was a big fucker. He ran thru the room once in front of the chicks & as his head went out the door his tail was only just coming into the room. I swear I saw him drive away in a towtruck.
