View Full Version : Halting a crack in a screen

So umm how do I do this or is it possible to halt the progress of a crack in a screen. It started at a retaining screw (my fault) and has now progressed about 40mm. Its hardly visible at the bottom of the screen. I was thinking of putting plastic protection on both sides matching the bottom vee of the screen where the crack is.

Any better ideas other than letting go of $200 for a new one.

drill a small hole at the end of it that way it shouldn't go further

Drill a small hole at the end of the crack. Works on airplanes in aluminium, so perspex be much the same. Fill the hole with clear silicone if you're fussy...

a hole drilled at the end of the crack should halt its progress, but probably would not work if the crack has already changed direction.

No no no, it's why you should never suck on the clit too hard lest it come out of the crack arresting hole...isn't that why it's called a C-section? :brick:

Bugger me and I already new that it just didn't pop into the stratosphere of my brain. Too much work and not enough play. thanks for that.

Could if it was standard screen. Its the Ducati comfort fairing kit of which I bought the last screen from Italy several years ago. That place in Hamilton makes them but they are expensive. At least I can get another one if desperate one day.

The hole drilled at the end of the crack WORKS, then filling it with a clear paintable(or screen coloured) silicone is a very good idea just to be sure that vibration doesn't start it off again.
Good luck , cant have expensive gear being ruined for a lack of knowledge.

as everyone else has said drill a small hole to stop it moving and further
but make sure you use a plastic set drill bit,
ita easy to adapt a metal one just square the cutting edge off

http://www.bertram31.com/proj/tips/drill_acrylic.htm

you want the dril to scrape the plastic out not dig in and crack it more
