Sorry if this should be in a different thread. Just wanted to know if there are many BMW HP2 Enduros in NZ
Why was this model discontinued? I love the look of them and would love to own one. Would be a cool departure form the heavier 1200GSA
Haven't seen any for sale seccond hand either

I'd much rather have crash bungs scraping along the road than a cylinder head after the inevitable bin.

How well do they actually protect the engine though after a moderate speed bin?

had one from BMWNZ for 3 days when they were released. What a machine. Took it up the Coromandel in gravel and on the twisties. Woohoo what a machine.
only brought 9 to NZ . They sold about 5 & then shipped the rest to Oz. Sold some with 2 sets of wheels.

I thought they were only ever a limited edition thing.

One lives up the road from me.
Quad cam innit? 110HP?
Looks well capable. The owner sure is. Wonder why they didn't turn it into a full blown production unit., even at a premium price.

How about a 100kph tumble into a field? Sure, needed some TLC by the shop, but any normal bike would have been destroyed. That's my opinion anyway.

Well they ended up being limited. There has been some debate on the exact number produced and in what specification, but it ranges from a few hundred to a couple of thousand... worldwide. I think the reasoning was that they were expensive to produce, didn't sell that well (while loved, comparative to other models in the range it had an limited market) and therefore discontinued. Plenty of people still want BMW to release another tho...

Quad cam? the GS and GSA only recently went to DOHC.

I had a set of Touratech bars on my old 1100 before I sold it and they took few good offs in gravel and grass. No problems. I have seen few on tarmac with maybe a slight bend in the tubing but the cylinder heads were intact

I think they also put the engine in a Randy Mamola / Boxer Cup model.
I'd love one of those..

There was one of the Mamola Specials for sale in Hamilton about a year ago. It was absolutely mint in BMW colours with only 7-8K on the clock. I think it sold for some ridiculous ammount of money

Yeah the one in Hamilton was nice, but pricey.
There's been one on TM lately (from Cambridge i think), but Car Jam says it's: a) a 'Merican import and b) clocked by 20k.

American = Restricted??
I dunno.
What pissed me off was - here's this geezer in Cambridge advertising a 2002 BCR with 18k on it which I was pretty keen on. Car Jam says it was imported from the US in 2006 and that it's been clocked 22k - how dumb does he think the average punter is?

Did you approached him with the Carjam report? What was his response? Cheeky git alright

Don't believe everything you read on carjam - to do the mileage carjam says was put on my Territory it would have had to drive to the moon and back every month for the first year of its life.
I know the Territory is a pretty capable vehicle but...

The fact that KTM came out with the equally insane 950 SuperEnduro at the same time for about 10 grand cheaper didn't exactly help either.
Cheers

950SE is a one bad mother of a motor scooter, but for some reason the HP2-E looks cooler in my humble opinion. (just my preference)

I reckon the 950 would look better if it included the pile of Rutherfords making up the price difference between tidy used examples of it and an HP2. I've seen them on TradeMe for less than $10k.
I want a 950SE.

Not familliar, will google. What's immediately apparent with the HP2E is how... unencumbered it is, no fat. It appeals to the enginameer in me.
The neighbours one looks well used, (as in used well), might affect the price but I've got no idea if or when he'd consider selling it.
If and when he does you'll have competition.

The last time I saw one of those it was airborn half way down the main straight at Paeroa having just run over an 1125R Loki.
They're gorgeous. I'd love one, but there's not many out there and when one hits the open market they don't stay there long.

Bastard.
Actually, I spent much of last week on an S, very nice machine but I wasn't comfortable on it.
Oh if there was room in the budget for half a dozen machines that HP2 would probably be one of them, but not for touring.

There was a mint HP2 megamoto sitting on Oriti beach last week at the race, that'd be my pick of that particular bunch.
Was unattended too...

If only I had children to sell. Not sure who it was (guessing Choppa) but the HP2 was out and about kicking ass in Pro Twins in AMCC Round 2 today...
Suddenly I want kids. Then I could sell them for the HP2, MM and E... the HP4 is coming soon too, and actually not that too stupidly expensive...

I got offered one about 3 years ago with Ohlins front and rear for $5k as the owner needed some cash, unfortunately at the time I was also tight on cash and had to turn it down.
