The sun was shining, the birds were singing and today is the first day of my holidays. What better way to celebrate than by going for a wee jaunt on the beast. I managed to pry White Trash away from his work and off we headed. With no real direction in mind we headed out to Waiuku on a nice cruisy ride, then on a whimsical route which brought us into Pukekohe and thoughts of heading to Tuakau and a bit of a blat down 22.
Sadly our journey ended in Pukekohe when a young man failed to give way to me (he saw me, stopped, then pulled out in front of me). Unfortunately I was faced with the choice of hitting him or the truck that was waiting to turn, so I slammed on the picks, locked it up and went down for a wee slide on the road. Had trouble picking myself up at first, but was spurred on when someone suggested calling an ambulance.
Fortunately the x-rays revealed that I've only sprained my thumb this time, and I've got some beautiful bruising coming up on my hip. Bike's not too bad - the usual damage (indicator, throttle, brake lever, muffler) and quite a bit of scrapeage.
The driver has told the police that he'll do the right thing and pay for the damage, in addition to the fines he's receiving for failing to give way, no warrant, no rego and driving on a learners licence with passengers. I won't hold my breath in getting money out of him - he's only 16 or 17 years old, but he was very polite and apologetic.
So as you can imagine I'm not a happy camper right now.

Damn it Sue! What's with this connection between you and bad luck?!
Very sorry to hear about this yet again but I'm very glad that nothing worst happened.
Also good to hear that he'll pay for the damage.
Did your b/f get all manly and worked up and threaten to kill the guilty party and so and so forth?

It went along the lines of, parking the gixxer directly in the drivers open window and expressing words to the effect of "What the fuck do you think you're doing you stupid little fucking cunt"
Thought the poor little bugger was gonna cry. Luckily, he had his "homies" in the car for moral support.

Poor RR! That SV clearly has ambitions that need to be dealt with. Sternly!

I have observed that that is the general purpose of a helmet.

Lucky you had your helmet and leathers on (presumeable) or else they would have just started crackup up laughing
Sorry to hear about the bin RR, hope you get things sorted. Have you got insurance? If you do just let them fix it up and the guy will get hit with the bill, just let them know he was in the wrong and has been charged with failing to give way. Hope the hand gets better soon, know what its like re-injuring a hand/wrist that was recently broken

As for Jimmy, he could at least have beaten the crap out of the driver (or all of them if anyone was brave...)
Would have liked to see the look on his face as Jimmy let rip with the verbals!
hopefully this doesnt completely spoil your holiday.

Still, you're okay - that's the main thing. Hope the scratches contrast nicely with the ones on its stablemate.

Sorry to hear that Sue.
Was it just plain bad luck and unavoidable, or do you think you could've stopped if you hadn't locked the brakes?
Rather than just putting it down to bad luck and hoping it doesn't happen again, maybe practicing some emergency braking might be a good idea.
I'm pretty sure when I upgrade from the zeal (which doesn't have the best brakes) I'm going to have to be careful getting used to a bike with good brakes.

The rosters are divided into four "watches" Red, Blue,Brown, green
Blue watch are wankers, but Green are cool Red is despised by all except those on it who all think they are the best but everybody else knows they are not. Red is reserved for high and mighty know it alls.
Hope this helps.
Hey Glen, I thought you were on Blue watch ????????????????????

To be honest I'm not sure because it all happened so fast. I asked Jimmy for his perspective from behind - it was too late for me to attempt to go behind the car, so my options were to hit the car, the truck waiting to turn or the heavy breaking. I don't know whether he would have faired any better in my position. He has said to me on many occassions that he really doesn't like the brakes on the SV so that could be part of the problem.

Only just caught up with this. (title didn't give much away).
What a bummer!
(The crash,, not WT)(although,,,, from what I've heard.....)
Sucks to come off at any time.
Doulblely worse when it's not your fault.
Threedly worse on a 'brought it New' bike!
At least it wasn't Fourdly worse by happening right at the begining of summer and the best riding weather.
Hope things sort out for you quickly RR, so your not left fighting about who's riding the Thou!

Quickly? It's an insurance claim! Unlikely that I'll see my beast again before the end of my holidays. It's been at Coleman's for a week now and the assessor still hasn't been. Hopefully that will happen today, then they've got to order all the bits for it. Sucky suck suck.
