I did this successfully before and in my case I was replacing a convex glass with flat that only cleared the tacho needle boss by about 3 sperms. So just something to check.

I am about to do exactly this. get yourselg some perspex or similar, measure the hole and cut it out slightly large, then trim it down to size, checking regularly by gently sandiing it to a perfect fit. Some decent glue designed to be used on the plastics in question will see it stuck fast.
Im using a dremmel for the sanding but Im a lazy cunt.
bit of perspex will cost ya a couple bucks, or free if ya know the right people!

Hope this isn't too off topic...
But I once pulled apart a speedo to do custom speedo plates... the sucker seemed to be stamped and sealed from the factory? It was wicked hard to get it open.
Are they all like that!?
