UBER-MEKE thread!!

1) i want a macbook pro, one with >15" screen, >500GB HDD (main disk not SSD -OR- one that has secondary SSD)
anyone got me some hookups for cheap? /finance for 10$/week...?

before you mac fan boys start patting my back and tonguing my balls, and before you winblows gits start berating me, i'm going to linux the fuck out of it.
the motivating factor for me is 7hr battery life and a screen that's big enough so as i don't need a TV/DVD player. (alternatively if you can find me a dual screen laptop or one of them four way foldey ones...)

2) I'm underclocking my T43, M series processor, 1.7GHz. 512MB rambo (donations of pc 4200 1-2GB would be appreciated)

currently down to 798MHz on .924V, running at 42 degrees, dropped voltages across all multipliers 4 points, throttled CPU to 45% and knocked off top few multipliers (thus why i want more RAM).
power consumption is still about 15W (down 1-2). battery is 10.8v 4.8Ah.
apperently people have dropped the M processor to .7V stable at 6x. (i believe Mac OS can get their hardware down to 9W.)
will keep this thread as running update.
i don't leave it on 24/7, generally do >90% DOD cycles on the battery, so will only be stress testing it <45min on primes.

3) anyone in AKL into trees, mountain biking etc. there are 4000 to be planted at totara park. 10AM saturday coming (21st)
i know about this through auckland MTB club so you can get deets off Kris through there or hit me up. - do something good for the planet you f*cking jaffas!

Why the fuck would you want that overpriced Apple crap when there are far better alternatives for a much lower price?

The 9 cell in my probook is good for 9 hours & it's got a 15 1/2 HD led screen. Cost just, just, over a grand.

If size is a concern also, mac is probably the way to go, but there are other brands that will get the same battery life, just in a larger format. A full work day's battery life is a common selling point these days I think.

*with comparable specs (particularly screen), running my softwarez, and that is not HP.
and i would like something more in the order of 17" screen +

pretty much comes down to tecra, lenovo or macbookpro.
since i already have a lenovo, i'm accepting parts donations.
i'm not intrerested i a tecra as the last toshiba/satellite i had was poos.

mac works good. debian pwns macs.

or prehaps you know some l33t h4ck5 for the lenovo (debian).... if you do, feel free to build me a machine =)

With the change left over you could buy a spare battery for a laptop.

Then shut it down and have your SSD as a boot drive.

Have you looked through the Asus stuff? I would have expected them to have something in that range. Might be time consuming to cross reference the battery lifetimes though.

Some HPs and also some Lenovos can take a second battery in the optical drive bay. That would take care of the hotswap problem.

that sounds l33t. but as far as i'm concerned, messrs Hewlett, Packard, can suck my nuts. interesting on teh lenovo one tho. but i think 6.9Ah one for the mc i have now (instead of the 4.8Ah) would almost be right enough. (+ me want to get a DVDRW drive...)

i have not. i haven't heard of an asus that would post anywhere near the spec i want...?

my latest stable clocking (FWIW) each down ~15 thou
6x @ .828v from .988
7x @ .860v
8x @ .924v
9X @ 1.068v
10X @ 1.1v
11x @ 1.14v
12x @ 1.1v
13x @ 1.132v from 1.308

i'm thinking that meeb i knock every second multiplier off? either odds or evens. i was also considering knocking the 6x off and/or the 13x so it idles high and only switches (speedsteps) when it really really needs to.
i seem to be about as low as i can go for power savings. hanging at about 15W which means it's other hardware drinking the juice. i have, however, nearly doubled the battery life. and the chip is running about 10 degrees colder!!!

anyone know if disconnecting the touchpad will make a notable diffrence? (i'm going to try it anyway, but if someone knows offhand...?)

Whats the reasoning behind underclocking to extend battery life? You work in remote areas or just for a geek cock measuring contest? If your working in remote areas get some external battery pack adaptors.

i'm on solar power. sometimes the sun don't shine too good. (i'm working on a wind turbine and waterwheel, but thay's'aways off yet.) so my "external battery pack adaptor" is my house batteries. but basically i'm just looking to reduce consumption of as much as i can... and for the technology, i'm not doing too badly having this at 15w since newby macbooks run at 9. i'm picking the screen is the biggest power draw (but no way to test...)

and yae, in a remote area. 3g internets (upgraded to a mighty 1GB/ month!!! 26k/s - AWESOME. (anyone want to sponsor me a nokia c5-01?))

Cool, is your house made of hemp?

no. but working on that too (just have to stop smoking all my building materiel >< !). acre for acre (and i have a few) hemp is more productive than corn. oil=biodiesel, fibre=clothes, shoes (http://i.shoebuy.com/pi/wicke/wicke397124_214217_jb.jpg), rope etc.
plus. what better place to hide a tree than in a forest? :doobey:

some hemp products:, why wouldn't ya?
