I'm interested in buying this bike http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=491946744
Problem is that I'm based in Wellington. If anyone could help me out and go have a look at the bike, that would be much appreciated. I would be happy to pay a few bucks, or beer , for this service.
Respond here or send me a PM and we can discuss the details.
Cheers,
Chris

You could contact Bayride Motorcycles, the local Yamaha dealer on 07 5713040 for a pre purchase inspection.
It probably beats getting some ning nong that stacks shelves for a day job, telling you its ok.

I could get time off from stacking shelves and have a look at it for you, looks too tall for my short legs so it'd be just a visual. I'll ask Bayride if they know the bike, good excuse to call in and talk to them.

Looks real tidy, that is stage one complete ;).

Yeah, looks well cared for. Either that or it's just had a valet prior to listing. Rear axle seems to be about the mid point of it's adjustment. But all in all it looks neat and tidy. I'll talk to Bayride tomorrow and get back to you.

Thanks, really appreciate it. The bike looks to be in mint condition, got a few other pictures sent to me as well. If I buy it I will probably take a flight to Tauranga and drive it home.

Yeah, its not that far right?
The seller said he uses Smiths Motorcycles for services and whatnot. Will try to contact them during the week.

In case my post was interpreted as negative, the point I was making, is that pre purchase inspecting any motor vehicle, should not just be entrusted to the first random person, trade unknown, that replies to a post on an internet forum in exchange for free beer.
Its a serious business, with serious implications if someone gets it wrong.
Hey, id happily check it out if I felt I possesed the skills to do so, thats why I reccomended a professional company that are experts in the machine type, with an excellent reputation.

Smiths are a great company too. Brian is the workshop manager & has been for about forty years.
Their number is 07 5786062.

I definately agree with you. If it were any other bike I would probably do just that, but the seller has been very good at providing information and detailed pictures that make me believe that it is a good bike. I only wanted a 2nd opinion before I hop on the plane :) I will give them a call at Smiths Motorcycle as I know they changed the front sprocket not long ago.
Also, I think would notice if it were some random guy just after money or beer. Other than that I guess I am a trusting guy, from experience people on these kind of forums are generally very helpful and honest.

Probably not worthwhile my calling into Bayride then, if it was 2nd hand when the current owner bought it and he's used Smiths then Bayride probably don't know the bike. I think it best that you call Smiths, they're a good shop.

Im a Hairdresser bro!!
If a proper mechanic checked your bike out, it would never get a WOF.
Na, I was refering to specific product knowledge, I have none on that type of machine.

Alrighty :)
The plan was to fly up and ride it down, but then I would have to wait a few more weeks and the weather might suck. Where I come from we dont ride in rain, you guys might...not me :oi-grr:

I bought my learner bike from Lower Hutt. I did an internet bank transfer, the owner had the bike delivered to his bike shop in Lower Hutt, and they released the bike to the transport company. The registration documents were included with the bike and I completed them once the bike arrived. I had the bike delivered to my bikeshop, and picked it up from there.
I used North Island Motorcycle Movers Ph 0800 200 900, Dennis. Cost me about $200 Wellington to Lower Hutt.
There's a certain amount of trust required, but I don't think you have to worry about this seller.
