Anyone know of anyone wrecking a 1987-ish Toyota Hiace Petrol van? 20Y model?

Need a Carb, and have called so many places and no luck...

Any suggestions?

Ring my mate Grant at Napier Auto Supplies 834 0101. He is pretty good at 'finding' things.

I'm assuming it has a 2/3/4Y motor, which run the same carb/different jetting, if so, it'll be the same as a Hilux, some changes between domestic markets (some had fucked up antismog shit etc)
If it's a 2y, do a wee on it and claim insurance

Good luck.

Thanks all :)

I know stuff all about car stuff, but will refer the auction on to my mechanic and let him figure out if it will work. I will also call the other places listed above!

At the moment we have is running again (it was dying everytime I slowed down and then I would loose my brakes and steering, so not very ideal). Now it runs better, backfires like hell, but doesn't cut out. The carb kit from Repco did little to help, and it is still chewing through gas like you wouldn't believe (1/4 of a tank roughly every 45km)

At least for now it is still driveable.

Get a new mechanic. Seriously. Thats easy shit to fix. Sounds like classic float valve failure.

No it is not that simple, this carb is still the original one from Japan (normally they are changed when they arrive in NZ), it has been looked at by 2 well known workshops and the first refered me on to the second due to the complicated nature (apparantly) of the carb issue. Something about a single stage carb not dual stage or something along those lines... I have no idea. But the general recommendation is a new carb...

As for the insurance comments... seriously not worth the risk

You could try http://www.mpd.co.nz or http://www.partslink.co.nz/ we use it at work for difficult cars to find parts for

Split accelerator pump diaphragm or split auto-enrichment diaphragm. The latter being very common in older Toyota carbs.
