Hey all,

What do you do for storing your motorbike outside? Aph and I both want a more permanent cover for our bikes. We have an area where our bikes go, but it's currently not sheltered. I was thinking of getting a gazebo with sides, but worried it'll fly away... I haven't seen a shed with a door big enough to get two bikes in side by side without making it difficult.
As I have a GN125 I'm a bit worried it'll start rusting, as I hear the buggers rust practically overnight.
I don't really want to just get a bike cover and leave it at that.

Build a shed, easy peasy. They do sell those steel garden sheds big enough for a couple of bikes, cos I had a triumph and a husky in one in massey years ago.:headbang:

Buy a shipping container if you have enough room for one. They're a lot more secure than a garden shed if you put big enough locks on.

Just had a look at these, the gap it would need to fit down on the drive is too small for the truck and we've got overhead powercables. But I'll flick them an email anyway, there's a great one with a roller front door. Might be the way to go further down the track

I moved to a house with a huge garage...from a house with a massive garage, after being in a house with a large garage.
So, move to a house with a huge/large/massive/sexy garage?

Haha we have a garage, it's just occupied by Aph's ZX and it's only a single garage, ie no room for anything else...

When we do move next it will be the main requirement of the house. Well. That and a dishwasher.

In that case, a small steel one, or a decent car port if you can get one?
Otherwise, park the bikes in my garage and forget you ever had 'em

Threaten Aph, make him the dishwaher

i use a tarpaulin and string (about 4$ at bunnings.) and bike sits in a paddock.

else there's a crowd called "outpost buildings" who make kitset sheds etc with rather snappy pricing.
else just get a big trough of fish oil and ride your bike through it before getting off.

Tempted to make a comment about smelling like fish from the oil but I don't think I'll go there.

I would get a 3x3m garden shed and build a timber floor made out of decking. If you get a 2.4 wide one you could transport it on a trailer if you move without any problems.

Those kitset sheds can be a little pricey, but there are always good deals lurking about when you start to hunt around abit. I am a big fan of recyling stuff too,old pallets and the like I would be looking out for if on a tight budget, old roofing iron, stuff like that. :headbang:

3 by 3 bays and I can fit 2 cars in each bay, so space for up to 18 cars.

and a kitchen/lockup.

No I am a fat old Harley Davidson riding biker. Don't you know that all Harley owners are wankers.

But thanks I'm getting old and my sports bike has 4 wheels these days. I have owned the Midget for 22 years.

I am impressed you both know what one is and recognised it from such a partial view.

Not bad for a sports bike rider.

It's because I'm building a non-sports orientated bike, it has opened my mind.
I may also be slightly mad on cars, proper cars.
I can also tell you it's a series two Elise and from memory those are 111S wheels? So it's 119kw Toyota motor and it needs to be on the other side of my garage

Close its a 111R with the 150kw motor, air con, electric windows, carpet and a stereo.

It's hidden around that corner so it is out of sight from the wndows.

If chooseing a garden shed, you want one with a door wide enough to stand beside the bike as you push it in, and high enough to stand up, inside. Either a large square shed, or a rectangle shape with the door at one end,( if it's a long bike).

As said already, put a wooden floor down, and I would line the inside, so condensation wont drip over everything.

Personaly, I would knock up a wooden frame with treated ply exterior, and line the inside. Condensation on the inside of any metal single skin wall/roofing will be a problem with cold frosty mornings.

Most 'Tin' garden sheds are pretty flimsy,

If security is not a problem, but money is, I would put up a decent frame with a lined roof and drop down tarp sides.

Whether it's a GN125 or a $27,000 tourer, any bike deserves to be kept dry and out of the weather.

Ive the same issue. Ive been speaking to Cave Weta. Thinking of making a basic wooden frame and covering it with some canvas from Cavey. I board so cant make permanent structure.

With a bit of initiative, there's no reason you could'nt knock up a frame that bolts together, then gets taken apart when you need to do a runner.

No reason you can't put a slight angle towards the back of the shed on the top of the frame and have a standalone roof with corregated plastic roofing that you can bolt onto the frame too. Much better than canvas roof. Easier to assemble in my opinion too

If you're feeling extra awesome. you can attach an angled piece of guttering as well to disperse the water to where you want it.

The gaps between the corregated plastic and the frame also allows for a good amount of airflow too if you're putting covers/walls over all 4 sides
