New member clocking in from Dunedin (tweedo)

Hey all,

Graham here from Dunedin. Just signed up and thought I'd make myself known.
Only just getting back into bikes after having an XR200 years ago, picked up an '74 CT90 from my boss and the bug started from there.
Fixed that up, going pretty good now considering the length of time it sat for... Close to 10years!
Then it was onto my uncles XR250 that was out of action for about 7years. Got that up to scratch with very little work indeed and using that for my offroad/farm bike atm.
Looking at buying a mates CB250RS off him atm and getting it on the road, but seeing as I'm pretty new to the whole bike game I'm mainly after some advice on these things.
So if anyone could give me the heads up on what to look out for before I buy it that'd be awesome and an owners manual would be pretty handy too if anyone happened to have one?
I did a search and saw a post that was talking about these bikes but it was old and I couldn't PM anyone yet so thought I'd just post this up here.
Hopefully I've done it right!

Hey again guys,

Just thought I'd post up a few pics of my new bike.
1985 Honda CB250RS, went and checked it out and picked it up yesterday. Pretty mint runner really, no smoke, no knocking or anything so I'm pretty happy with that side of things.
Just hasn't been looked after that well by the looks of it so its all just general maintenance things to take care of and she'll be looking and going mint!
The only thing I'm unsure about is there is oil weeping out of the slotted screw to the left of the spark plug, well as far as I can see that's where its coming from but could be wrong (see photo).
If anyone could enlighten me as to how to fix this or whether I should worry that'd be awesome.

And to any Dunedin guys out there, do you source parts locally or through the likes of Econohonda?

Looks like a gasket gone. Not from "the slotted screw" though. A cam cover gasket by the looks of it (could be wrong too)

Realitively speaking ... minor issue.

go to supercheap and buy some cans of degreaser give it a good ol scrubbing
then you will know exactly where the leak is coming from
i sorced my xl250 parts from motozone.co.nz cheap and fast!!

do what Hayd3n suggested, degreaser is cheap and effective. it doesnt look to me like its coming from the screw at all, as the top of the screw is clean as, it looks to be a slight gasket leak to me.

Cheers guys. I've got some degreaser out there that I'll attack it with and see what I find.
Nothing to worry about though by the sounds of it which is a relief.
Shit it was as cold as charity yesterday when I took it for a ride/rode it home! Not a great first experience but still awesome though!

Hi Graham,
I started riding in Dunedin in 1964 on a moped! I went through a Suzuki 150 amd a Suzuki 250 before I went over to the dark side & bought a car for a few years. My least fond memories were of trying to stop on ice while going down some of Dunedin's hills. Still, it was a baptism of fire about learning to ride.
I have owned a bike for most of my life, but am now back in to it more seriously here in Auckland. Am hoping I may bring a bike down your way this summer. Anyway, ride safe on those hills down there my friend. Regards, Tony
