With the apparent attitude of Taupo's officials - one wonders if ANYTHING will be happening there this year...

Check with the Pacific club,But as I am aware they have NO intention of running this event and I have not recieved any permit application or entry form for approval to date

Would be good to have an endurance race in the north, even if it wasnt at Taupo.

Waddayaknow? Waddayaheard?

I heard a whisper some time ago that Taupo officials were being uncooperative, uncommunicative, unscrupulous and generally obnoxious.

Only a whisper?

In my experience people generally say that with a fair bit of volume.

Maybe someone could P.M or e mail Andy Scrivener, or Chris Lawrence (Racer 40 on here) & ask if they want to run it again.
They were the guys that started it originaly.

Or maybe talk to Andrew from the Vic club and see if you can convince him and the Taupo track to run it on the Monday after round 5 of the NZSBK series,Apply for the National title available and see if we can't convince some of the South Island guys to hang around for it.

I was keen to try and start an 6hr or 8hr length event at Manfeild for Easter weekend, exactly the same reason post nats, pre VMCC but separate from both. I stopped the research due to the 3hr starting up......maybe I should get excited again.

I also had another race format idea that was put to VMCC a while ago - ill start another post

I don't think your gonna get a better opportunity than the day after the final round of the Nats to get all the Big teams to attend,Obviously youve never done a longer distance endurance race or you,d know the costs involved are huge,Especially when the big guns are there and theres a national title at stake.I like your enthusiasm though.

I have done the 3hr twice and 3 6hrs actually. The 3hrs were def fun, MASSIVE outlay just for 3 hrs. The 6hrs we not MNZ affiliated but hugely successful......our 50cc mopeds are extremely modified......beyond MNZ wildest dreams - supercharged even.

6hrs on a supersport or bike would be even greater, brake changes, tyre changes, you pretty much need to rebuild the bike before and after a 6hr. Simply could you afford to do a 6hr race 24hours after end of the national series? i don't know if NZSBK racers could, I blew 25k at the nats and only raced my 400 once!

Separating it would allow a few weeks peps to prepare/repair post the nats. Easter also has no bike racing...........

Rode her long and hard till she blew - 3 times even..... we still talking about bikes right?

Do it.

There isnt alot of spaces left once you take in: NZSBK, Tri Series, PMCC, AMCC & VMCC race dates, Pearoa street race, let alone tracks being booked for whomever else. People pick and choose which events they want to support and if its not supported someone has to pick up the tab. Endurance racing is great, if only there were more endurance races around, off road there certainly is.

Much better off having a shorter, 3 hour the day after the last Nationals round. It's not long enough that a rebuild is needed, it's the end of the season so guys are more likely to take part as they don't have to save the machinery for other races and they're there already.

A few weeks after isn't a winning situation as people are busy

doing fark all
getting things prepped for the next series
sold their bike

Endurance racing is awesome, but it's not awesome enough for all of the potential entrants from the Nationals round to go away, rebuild their bike especially and come back a few weeks later with all the associated travel/accomodation/food costs etc.

A separate, longer race has much more risk attached to it for the organizer and financial backer.

Bingo!!!! And the costs involved for the competitors would far outweigh a similar race on a 50cc,Would have thought that was blindingly obvious.

Ok so I am not a racer, but a track day-er and avid water for bikes plus my bro does race a 600 supersport. After reading this why not kind of compromise and say have a extended race(s) in nationals. Something like one round in South Island with a race 35 laps ish with say double points for all with the same thing in the north island too. It's not a 3hr or 6hr race but some were in the middle.

Just an idea.

Yep ok Agreed - post nats is prob the best time, 3hr aint a bad length, maybe we run the 2 up race (see other post) just before the enduro for that spectator X factor. The 3hr was a very well run event. Seems like the single race is the way to go, the F3 one never really got off the ground.

Im thinking run it the same as before, 1 race 600cc and up, for 3hrs. Next year for me is all up in the air cause the new RNZAF choppers aint! So im keen to look at orginising this in 2014 (That is if the last round of the nationals in 2014 is at Taupo/Manfeild.......sorry can't swing Aucks). Billy can you PM me how to go about it.:Punk:

Unless you want to register with MNZ as a private promoter,You'll have to convince a club its a good idea and sort out the supp regs/rules,Apply for a permit, have the entry form approved and apply for the title if thats what you require.
