You list it here at $8000 and have the audacity to put 'no dreamers' in your trademe auction? Have you seen how much tidy original ones go for? It's quite pretty, but surely you've still raped all the value out of it.

whats the difference between the 750 and the 1100 of these old gsxr bikes? apart from the power plant obviously..
'cause i see a lot of 750's come and go for sale and always catch phrase about this is a collectors bike and the one you want.
I'd want the 1100 myself, look the same to me and I had the 1100 motor in a sidecar and it was mint. have only ridden 2 different 750s of these. Can't say I rated them that much :D the 1100 motor would stir things up a bit.
and by the way, nice build. looks good.. shame u can't fit the bottom fairings on anymore, looks a little bit half finished with body work missing.

Best combo is 7/11. In the old days one would put the 1100 motor in the 750 lightweight frame. Then you would really be flying :)

Best is to first open up the cases, and put the six speed box from the 750 in the 1100.

i had one of these and sold it a couple -3 years back , (bought a leather lounge sweet with the money)well 1/2 one from the money.
nice job i may say, but would have to agree with others, you've killed the value , by changing it, if it was done in the OME blue blue and white like mine,

you maybe closer to the money,
mine was very tidy and un fucked with (outside the 1100 wheels) and I had many people tell me they thought it was worth good money and would buy it , but F all fronted up with any cash, and i ended up selling it for 3 1/2 k , so good luck , your selling your bike against 1ltr bikes 2001 to 07 mark and some very worthy opponents.

I don't think I have changed it that much from original, what I have done though is remove or repair the damaged bits and repair the frame where some retard had drilled holes in it and ground bits out. To a purist you would never be able to touch the frame as it had a quite unique anodised finish that you could not refurbish if you tried. I still have all the original bits to put it back to stock but fucked if I would piss about with the OTT stickers it had from new.

Well when the swing arm mount folds, and the frame turns itself inside out, it'll be interesting to watch him take it back out using a gas axe at least.

I figured it that much. There is no way physically that 250 frame would be strong enough to withstand the torque and associated forces of the 1100 motor. Yet, I have seen with my own eyes the 1100 sitting next to the 250 frame and getting measured up. I was thinking at the time, how the fuck is that going to fit in there.

The motor won't fit between the frame rails anyway, or between the headstock and swingarm mount, so it's a non issue really. Good job, because it would kill someone if it folded at the wrong moment.

Oh, with that character anything would not surprise me. Knowing him, he probably cut the frame up to fit the motor then rewelded it back up. After all he put ZZR1100 motor into a Vespa and rode it to the Brass Monkey Rally. Mind you we are talking mid 90s here, so back then the law did not apply as hard as it does now.

I don't think it really compares to a newer litre bike but even if it were original and better than any other old GSXR in the country there'd be a very select market for it at $8k. For that price you could find 2 tidy runners and a parts bike on trademe without trying too hard.
It's still a nice bike though; I've got plenty of space for early GSXRs in my dream garage.

I think idd pay a couple of K more for Laavas bike than the average gsxr750 for sale on trade me. Its a higher quality bike. 5k start. I want to know if reserve is closer to starting bid or buy now. 8k is a couple to many unless a very keen buyer spots it even though you get lots of bling on it.

Sold new in NZ and were expensive, but handled and went very well, even winning a fair share of races here in a class that was eligible to up to 650cc fours.
The Late John Marsh had one,so did the usual Wellington Motorcycles suspects among others, and they were a lovely machine to ride by all accounts.

That is a very tidy bike. Seriously it has amazing detail. Very clear its been rebuilt. If you were in the market for a bike like this its the one to go for.
Interestingly there was a stock one near it. To be fair in my mind I would have made the lower fairing fit or cut a replica one to fit.
But apart from that you could eat dinner of any part of that bike. That cant be said of many of the bikes at the show.

Thanks NZspokes for your kind comments! When the hall started to fill up it was amazing, there are some awesome machines in there esp the V Max! Yes the stock 1100 is an exceptional machine, it has done less than 1500km and has obviously been very pampered as well. When I bought mine it was lying on it's side with battery acid stains, holes drilled in the frame, homemade zorst and cowshit on and had no love happening. The show is definately worth a visit, I had an extensive chat with the guy that owned the Desmodispicable and he had plenty of other machines there as well. He started the Desmo up and howled out the entire hall! Lovely!

These are all awesome machines, no doubt, but mine is like new with EVERY bearing, seal, pad and many suspension parts brand new and EVERY part stripped and painted. Right down to the original nuts and bolts. Remember that this was a basket case bike in shitty condition.

No one doubts the work you've put in, and the great job you've done man. It is just being pointed out that you want way too much for it, in the less than tactfull KB way.

5th August 2012, 11:23
And without seeming like (much more of) a cunt, some of those other bikes probably don't need every bearing, seal, blah, blah replaced because they're 10 to 20 years younger. I'm sure there are people willing to spend 8k on a mint GSXR750 but they'll likely want it in original appearance and it's not like the engine has been freshened up & the bike is probably running the original (almost 30-year old) loom?
Seriously though, good luck with the sale. You've saved a classic bike from certain death and for that you should be applauded.

It was up to me. And I've still got. People ask why, well it fills a sleeve and doesn't bother me. Big decision removing a limb when it doesn't need to be removed. I got asked at the time of the accident if I'd like it removed, when I told them no they said that was the usual response but I'd be back in 6mths to get it removed. 15yrs later now.

Well my left hand doesn't fit a glove no more, and even if it did I have my arm tucked under my leathers so it's well out of the way.
Now we better leave this thread quietly, we've kind of hijacked it. Keeping it at the top of the forum though!
