Have seen a street legal klx300 for sale. It's a 98 purple frame. Does anyone know if these were sold new in NZ? Just that i have never seen this model before ,it looks factory .

As above, definitely sold NZ new - here's the original Factory pic from 1998:

They were a pretty decent seller for Kawasaki over quite a big year range so spares etc., shouldn't be a problem for them (new or used) they also share a lot of common parts with the preceding 250 model.
But as gammaguy says, make sure you get it checked out properly due to age/hours.

thats the offroad pic, the road legal one does not differ to much tho,

they (the road legal model) were brought into NZ around there in very small numbers, but most parts are the same as the offroad model,

Yea I did just that to my KLX300 for last dusty butt . Its easy enough just hook into the light circuit then through a switch block via an old fashon flasher unit (not a electronic flasher won,t work uneven current) and you have it .
The tuff bit is getting the indicators to stay on the back is the propblem that awakino challange gave my set up a hard time!!!!!!! but really the bike was great geared it up and it did well

Forgot horn and stop light horns easy just buy one and use same light circuit power supply .
The brake light was abit more but not to hard buy a hydrolic brake switch for the foot brake, power once again light circuit and go to the car wreckers and pull a tail/brake light to bits and replace the existing tail light bulb holder bayonet and run some wires via the brake switch .
I had a problem with blowing bulbs not with the brake light but the tail light as the vibration seem to be the problem but I no you can get a LED brake/tail bulb that will plug straight into the bayonet this may fix the problem .
I also had the bulbs blow on the indicators as well but same problem they where ridgit fit indicators and I really think you need the flexable ones would solve this vibration problem.

DRC do kits for converting bikes to road legal, with brake switches, wiring looms and everything, even one that works on batterys if you do not want to hook the stator up to charge it,

getting it road legal is the harder bit, its not to easy to get a non compliant bike to be complient,

The Road legal KLX300 had the 250 tank on it, so it is smaller than the picture above, and the raditor shrouds went right to the seat,

The later road legal KLX250's had electric start as well, (and then got a redesign in 09 and are still available new)
