OK, Hi all!

This has been bugging me and i have searched everywhere for an answer without having to post a NEWBIE question, but alas it has happend. :angry2:

I have just brought a 1988 CBR250R (first Bike)- It has a hurricane sticker on it. and people have said "oh you know its a hurricane right?" like its a big deal and or rare? But then people have said it was only the 1987 MC17 Hurricanes that are rare and maybe only the 600cc or 1000?

What is the difference between a CBR250R hurricane and non hurricane? and what makes it a hurricane and whats so special about it?

Sorry for the NOOOOB question in advance. :brick:

It was a name used predominantly in the American market to promote the CBR line. I believe some still are branded that way even today. Having said that, you'll definitely see JDM Hurricanes too.

The only difference is the sticker.

You think you've got problems now... wait till you buy your first Kwaka... every fuck wit you meet has had a brothers friend who had a 'Ninja' :bash:

All the MC17's I have seen are branded as the Hurricane. MC19 and MC22 are not branded as the Hurricane. It sounds like you have an ordinary MC17. I used to have an MC19 and that didn't have any Hurricane stickers on it, nor have any other MC19 that I've seen.

So its only the sticker... Sheeesh i wonder why some people were going on and on and on about it. (in other forums)

In saying that i will keep everything orginal as i am a bit old school that way. :2thumbsup

I love the friends Ninja stories. "Oh yeah, my mate has a ninja"! Whilst looking expectantly for an impressed reaction. Always best to reply with. "Cool, you have no idea about the bike other than the name do you"?

They're called Hurricanes because they sound like they're breaking wind.

Purely a 'market name', Yamaha called the FJ/XS series of 'factory choppers' Maxim in the USA, and 'custom' in Europe/elswhere. Means 'bugger all' in real terms. Enjoy the bike, dont worry about what others say which is better/worst/the schizzz/crap... it's all a matter of perspective.

Shouldn't this question be in "Ask Crasher" thread?

There is also one of these. I believe it was the American market version. Though I could be wrong.

Supprised no one brought up the fact that a hurricane can destroy a night hawk.

Thats some serious wind!

From what i have seen the ninja's and cbr's tend to hold there value well... Would this be correct in others opinion?

Can't argue with that!

The MC17 and MC19j were stickered as Hurricances, exactly the same reason why the Ninja name took off, idiots think the name sounds the the one on dad's mates ZX10R or whatever.
The Hurricane moniker was used on the late 80's CBR1000, so Honda did a Kawasaki and started sticking that name on small, shit bikes. :2thumbsup

That's an MC17, a bit earlier than the one in question. ;) We got plenty of them here.

Yeah but Kawasaki did a real good job at calling things Ninja. You could buy a 500w electric quad that was stickered "ninja" or a ZX9R!

The NightHawk, Hurricane and Fireblade never has prime children tv space.

Besides they all copied the Poms, with their Shadows, Cubs and Tigers.

Basically what it comes down to is marketing and branding.

If you want people to become invested in something, give it a name... that effectively gives it a 'life', something that people can rally around.

Sometimes a model designation itself, if it rolls off the tongue suitably, like R1, can be enough... but if you want to be able to bank on it, call it something... Fireblade, Panigale, VMAX, Hypermotard, Hurricane.

The automotive industry has known this since forever, and the tech companies have been smart enough to pick up on this too... gone are the days of buying a computer called PCX-1105T... now it's all Envy, Galaxy, etc etc.

But be careful what you choose... calling a bike something like 'Gladius' is a good way to kill it off... you might as well just name it 'Vagina' and be done with it.

I think the Hurricane decal makes it a Hurricane.

You should get a decal set for a CBR250RR, then put the extra two Rs next to your existing one. You'll have the only CBR250 Triple R in existence!
