Once the Govt find out about this device (http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/01/quirky-helmet-concept-gives-new-meaning-to-headlight/) I'm sure MotoNZ will be put into acton running a "study" to "prove/show" it saves lives & soon there after we'll all be forced to have one to comply with the dictated laws... but hey on the upside, it's "the coolest thing to happen to motorcycles since Easy Rider." or so say the creaters

You've lost me. Is it that if you keep your hands in your pockets you won't die of excessive speeding?
Or have your bars at a really odd angle.

nono, it's that a new light will magically stop you from being hit, so no longer do you have to worry about other vehicles & can start daydreaming while riding just like 80% of other drivers out there

Actually looks like a good idea to me. Anything that makes us more obvious to other motorists, not sure how that can be bad.
Sorry, my bad, this is KB. Fecking stupid idea.

It looks to me like it provides lighting to the rear of the helmet. No point providing additional lighting in the front, as we already have a permanent headlight which would be much birghter.
Number one cause of multi-vehicle motorcycle accidents is from a car pulling out in front across the path of the motorcycle.
I can't see how lighting at the rear will help. Actually, the only kind of accident I can see it helping with is riders struck from behind, but that is a pretty tiny percentage of the accidents.
rastuscat, this is your area. Can you think of many accidents you've seen where additional lighting on the back of the helmet would have made a difference? I'm guessing it wont be that many accidents.

A helmet and a jacket?
Might be of advantage in America...

C'mon Rastus, admit it..... it would be a handy thing for the popo when following or observing a bike lane splitting/weaving through traffic, even if you can only see the rider.......
Do you realise Sir, you had to apply brakes at this point, that place, coming up behind 'that' vehicle. You didnt indicate at this point, or at that place when you should have??

That just looks gay.
May as well dress us all up in full fluro yellow gear with a fucking siren on our helmets, oh and big speakers letting people know we're coming.

Their is another version of this idea available. An LED brake light that attaches to the old helmet. I think it is a good idea but needs more work, you would need one for the pillion too.
I've been bumped up the arse twice at stop signs despite hitting the brakes miles away to show I am stopping. Both times the drivers first comment was "Why did you stop?":brick:
Sadly, their are non so blind as those who will not see.

Fantastic! Does that mean you think it would be a good idea for all motorcyclists to have say, a red flashing light.................. and maybe a siren!
Ought to make lane splitting easier anyway.:woohoo:

You know that contrast makes a bigger impression, and blue being the opposite of red I would suggest a blue flashing light on the left shoulder alternating with a red one on the right shoulder. Should totally make lane splitting a breeze.

Where can I order one? I want the full blown guber package when I'm out in my dayglow fluoro yellow noddie suit...and that blinkie red light would be just sooooo awesome...it would complete THE LOOK right?

+1
A gattling gun at the front would be a good start. Other motorists fear of being shot would insure they looked out for bikes.

The ideal LOOK for maximum safety on the road requires a white & yellow BMW. They really focus drivers for some reason.

You want a safety device? A real one?
Put the loudest fuckin horn you can find on your bike. As soon as someone even looks like changing lanes anywhere near you, get on it. Someone looks like they haven't seen you at an intersection, get on it. Anything, and I mean anything that looks like it could turn sideways, get on the horn and stay on it till everyone you can see, is looking at you.
Now, that is actually a legal use of the horn, (although the horn itself will likely be illegal), and it will get you lots of attention. And what you will find is that everyone who has been affronted by that horribly obnoxious filthy bikers horn, will by Christ do anything they can to avoid a repeat performance.
If we all did this, the "I didn't see him" defence will start losing merrit mighty quick.

Well I've got a set of train horns sitting in my garage, but the compressor required to run the friggin things will spoil my power to weight ratio... And I'm not sure quite how to mount them either...:eek5:

Hang on, didn't someone get knocked off his work bike locally, lets see High-vis vest, white bike and oh yeah fancy reflective decals. Or was that just a story told to geriatric bikers?
Seriously there's a lot more required than some of us improving our visibility.

I work with a guy who did just that, in a car mind. Man we had some laughs seeing peoples faces when he let rip. I swear they would've made your ears bleed if you got too close. Freakin' legend.

Interesting concept but if folks cant hear the sirens of emergency services over their in car audio systems they are as unlikely to hear your horn, (or loud pipes).

Yes, mainly of the 'what a fucking tool' kind like those who ride with their lights on full beam all the time.

I don't do it, I prefer to stay allert and ready to stop or get out the way whenever I need to.
