People are also welcome to contact me for some more inside information on what they are looking for and who really should not bother due to the things they really are looking for.
Such as riders who are too tall, or likely to be come so, as an example.

Not many people in NZ ready for the redbull rookies. Who are young enough.

Will they take a 6'1", 85kg 30 y/o lol

Yeah I agree, Tyler looks like he would be a great fit. Not only can the kid ride but he has size and age on his side. Billy pointed him out a fair while ago so id say the wheels are already turning on that one

Id rather see 1 hopeful sent rather than a bunch of no hopes....

Yes, it is not for everyone and it is also not neccessarily for riders with heaps of experience, or NZ champions or lap record holders.
Just as one example, Hafiq Azmi basically had experience only on 110cc step-troughs, a couple of races on KRR150, one test on RS125 and one test on a CBR600 (at which his Dad walked away and could not watch!). But they saw that he could ride very fast (in the right conditions anyway).
It is really about showing improvement and the ability to go fast straightaway, to improve and not fall off the bike.

I wonder if rider with 4-stroke experience will get any beneficial consideration this year given that they are moving to Moto3 next year? I don't know.

I have to disagree with Qualman though, I think there are a few young riders in NZ at the moment who would be worthy of sending, like Rogan for example and there will be riders in the south too.
But for NZers there are many more things to consider than say, a Spaniard or Italian. After all, all of the Rookies Cup races are a days drive, or less, in the motorhome for them. Not quite the same for us. It takes a lot of money to travel to Europe.

At this stage, if we can find the money for them to get there ('cos they have very little and will be spending most of it on NZSBK this season), Tyler will be attending as the Moto Academy NZ selected rider to our reserved selection spot.

I would like to think that each time we go we gain more experience about what is needed to succeed. But to do it properly takes money, always money. A thing such as doing a days riding at a similar circuit, or even at the selection circuit (it was possible when we went in 2009, but we had no idea) in the lead up. But that requires organising a bike and all that that entails.

There are some in NZ who don't think it is worth it, that a Kiwi will never be chosen. They have their reasons for believing that and so be it, I am not going to debate it here. But I remain optimistic about the opportunity and I actually believe that Rookies Cup would love to have a Kiwi involved.

So, I encourage those who think they have the goods, but especially, think they have the resources, to get involved. It's a long way to go for one, maybe two days, but it is a great opportunity too. Yes, if you are not selected there is no "return" but still, nothing ventured, nothing gained, eh?

The excitement of Aragon's fabulous double race weekend has barely cooled and already we are looking towards the 2013 edition of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and the Selection Event at Monteblanco in Spain on October 9th, 10th and 11th.

Not only is the development of the Rookies version of the Moto3 KTM well in hand and a testing schedule planned but those who will ride the exciting new machine are about to be chosen.

Analysing the long list of online applicants gets more difficult every year but once again the selection committee have parred it down to 106 teenagers who are invited from all over the world to show their skills at Monteblanco. The venue was as always kept secret until the last practical moment and from that time until the event no testing is allowed by applicants.

The circuit offers a variety of layouts that will allow the riders to show their skills on the 125cc Metrakits used for the event. The applicant list is split into two groups with half being on track on the first day and half on the second. The best from each day are invited to ride again on the third day.

At the end of the 3rd day between 10 and 14 riders will be invited to join the 10 to 14 who are staying in the Cup from the 2012 entry. The combination will make up the 24 Rookies that line up for the 2013 season.

The members of the Selection Committee for the event are Gustl Auinger, Harald Bartol, Peter Clifford and Daniel Ribalta.

Just Skyped with Tyler and Dan Plaisted (who is looking after Tyler). They are in the hotel in Spain.
Had the most wicked (in all senses of the word I reckon) time at Magny Cours.
Dan delved into all the right trash cans to retrieve souveniers.
Had great quality time with Simon Crafar.
Met all the right people, poked his nose into all the right places.

Nice and hot in Spain.
Heading over to the circuit this afternoon (their time).

Send good thoughts everyone....

As we all know Tyler would have given it 110% and you can't ask for anymore than that. To have the opportunity of The Rookies Cup will be something that he can cherish forever. Sorry you didn't make the cut Tyler but in our eyes back here in NZ you are a real champ and 1 who can hold his head up high and be proud of what you have achieved so far in you short time in the Motorcycle Racing scene.
You will no doubt achieve so much more with the more and more experience you get and learn under you.
Jason......You have 1 fine son there and l know that you and Tyle'rs Grandfather are more than proud of him like the rest of are here in NZ are.
I wish him all the very best for the future and l'm sure he will do well. :)
Go Tyler.
