I know the CVO bikes are "limited" but everything on them you can purchase from the Harley catalog and put on your non CVO bike.

Just the paint job? Is that it?
Yeah, the CVO's are pricey. I think all Harleys are pricey. But was just sayin their "limited" CVO's are stock bikes kitted up by their CVO techs with shelf parts anyone could order out of the official Harley Davidson catalog. Ultimate price would probably be more though, if you went that route. More "expensive" than "limited"

They all kinda look the same to me.
All I can see, without a catalog in front of me, is a difference in paint, rims, what looks like a wider swing arm, and maybe cables. Maybe pipes?
Baffles me how someone can spend $14K doing up a bike. I just spent $3K and short of getting the entire thing chromed or hiring someone else to do all the work (including fabrication)... spending $3K was a stretch. I had money left over from budget, despite a few surprises like needing to replace bent factory bars!
Back to your bike; I do like Fat bobs. One I'd like in my garage, although I think something more akin to a fatbob done up Exile Cycles styles would be my winner.

I can understand how it becomes so damned expensive,,, My bike is a good example.. When released Yamaha worked with Akropovic to produce two silencer systems... stage 1, stage2/3 tuning kit... the price was astronomical, Yamaha tied up akrp so only Yam dealers could sell pipes through yamaha.. so Akro made profit, and yamaha made 'profit' on top... think the pipes were almost 3k NZ for just the mufflers. Same thing was done with the tuning kits ECU/pipes, down pipes cams, pistons etc... only available from a yam dealer.... accoding to Yam, if you changed to stage 1 or higher? you couldnt run the dual seat and standard exhaust covers... so they produced a 'kit' of seat, pipes, new underseat 'frame' carbon/plastic 'half covers' for the mufflers....Then there was to OS replica kits with a bikini fairing, different bars and 'lower level' risers.... of course designed that you had to buy the complete 'kit' to make it fit correctly..... A bit like 'screamin eagle' stuff for HD...

While I'm no fan of Harley performance (though keep in mind, the new ones have better brakes than my 18 year old daily ride); the 883 is a poor choice for summing up Harley.
You do need the big twins to get a feel for it. I think the 883 is only fun if it's stripped down to the extreme, with a hard tail frame - homage to their origins.

About mid last year a few of us went on a Harley 2012 bike promotion demo thing.
I was going along to review the new Switchback, and had two others with me (to test out, but also to follow along on a bike and take photos of the switchback in motion).
He first went out on the Harley Sportster 1200 custom. He hated it.
He had a go on the Night Rod... and his comment was along the lines of "it felt like a bike; like a proper motorcycle".
Positive feedback from him (a Ducati and DZ rider) I tells you.

Performance wise, the XR is great, I have read from some 'reviewers' that they questioned some of the build quality, exhaust brackets, seat, and some of the finish.... However if I was going to buy a HD? Then I believe an XR1200 would actually see me in the HD 'fold'.... and I not one of the 'stricken'..

Good shit, welcome to the crossover club.
I test-rode a 103 Fat Bob - didn't really do it for me, too slick and big and heavy and Japanese-feeling in its smoothness; I wanted something smaller, lighter, more bare-bones. It's a very nice bike, though. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Its not meant to be taken literally, he is just selling you a bike after all.
:eek:I am after a REAL Harley Davidson
Of course you are, Ian said you were a REAL MAN and REAL MEN dont ride Sportsters because Sportsters arent REAL Harleys
On the other hand,
Harley have sold more Sportsters than any other model
XL Sportsters have been in continuous production since 1957, one of the longest running models in motorcycling history
So if you want a REAL HARLEY buy a Sportster, not a Fat Bob Big Bob Black Bob with fancy paint.
FatBobs dont even have Fat bobs, how fake is that
I have brought a 1 of 200 in the world limited edition 103 cubic inches of 2012 Fat Bob Epidemic ,badge number 36 its the only one in the countryJust a little point, I am sure you are aware of but , you seem to be under the impression that your Fatbob is a limited edition model called Epedemic
Perhaps Ian didnt explain it to you properly.
Epidemic is the name given to a limited edition numbered factory paint job
There are a number of "limited edition" numbered paint jobs available for Dynas, Softails and even the not a REAL HARLEY Sportster.
The 200 limited editions apply to each model so there will be around 3000 bikes with each of the limited edition numbered paint jobs
(ie 3000 Epidemics)
and then an unlimited number of Epidemic etc paint jobs will be available, without the number.
Black Cherry Arson
Flashover
Afterburner
Cherry Bomb
Grind
Epidemic
Laguna
Rage
Tango
Ritual
So your bike isnt a "Limited Edition" its your paint job
And thats what you get for dissin Sportsters !!!!
Nice bike BTW

Agree 100%... Plus resale has a lot of variables that go with the plan.
When you really do the sums on most anything you buy depreciation hits all by around the same amount. We all hear of the good stories. I paid this, then sold it for that ....

edit -
Also further on the thought of resale - I could understand wanting a retaining sale value if you were on a learner bike with every expectation to upgrade to a bike you cannot ride on a learner license. It's shit to spend $5K on a learner bike from a dealer, then get $2K resale a year and bit later, then have to front another $5K for a decent newish non-learner bike.

Resale value? Thats why second hand HD's reached such a low price in the USA, people from europe (dealers etc) are going over and buying them to fill containers,,, the bubble for the overpriced S/hand HD in other countries WILL burst.. its a simple matter of oversupply vs demand in the end.. and HD have reached 'oversupply' in their home country.

What are the real facts on different brands retaining a high resale value? Certainly HD sellers seem to ask high prices relative to new for some bikes that are many years old. But - some of these (viewed on Trademe and Dealer listings) have very low Kms and are in show room condition. Buying an ex demo or new previous year model at reduced price seems a good way to minimize the overall cost of owning any make of bike.

Sure beats trolling the local public toilets looking for bum sex but then you wouldn't want any competition, huh Tinkerbell?
Still trolling the cruiser page I see.
Feeling any better about riding a Kawazuki? Why don't you go back to the sports bike page and tell the other GPZ250 super sports bike riders how fast you have gone.
It's Mr Leather Clad Tinkerbell to you trolling jap bike riders.

I was actually replying to a quote. You took a long time to reply, been at the Oamaru Gay parade I suppose? Fag.
I feel just fine about riding a Kawasaki actually. Thanks for your concern though, very sensitive of you.
P.S You really should keep your tights pulled up, it's not a good look.

I've never clicked on the Hogs & Other Cruisers sub-forum actually. As I stated earlier, I choose to browse KB by using the "What's New" page. You would have read that if you had of bothered to read the posts of other members. I shouldn't be too hard on you really, after all you do dig holes for a living.
I'll continue to do whatever I please with my time, including posting on threads that were started in (as you call it) the "crusier page". You have to admit though, the "cruiser page" does sound pretty fucking gay - is this where you homo's hook up for roadside dogging rendezvous?

http://www.roadandsport.co.nz/?id=508
Very nice looking bike I must say, would make any owner proud to have it. all for the low low price of $39,990.00 . :gob:
The standard FXDF retails for $27,595 from the same dealership.
Thats $12,395 for a paint job !!! Bugger that :shit:

Don't suppose you went in to tell them that you know of another one?
Or is it the same one?
I've always wondered how many Honda VF750C are in the country. I've seen maybe 4 in the south island and 4 on TM listed in the north island.
Certainly not common though.
For that matter, now that I've had a closer look at the paint.. it'd be interesting to see the painting automation involved with producing 200 identical bikes with the same paint.

Well it is an 'Epidemic' so it should spread rapidly, in all directions, and no one will be safe. OMG a nation of farming, arseless chaps wearers.

They can be made to corner pretty well considering with a couple of affordable mods.
Have considered "crossing over" as well and maybe into the V Rod "family".
In saying that I will always have a sports styled bike as well to get the whole fix.
Who wants to loan me a V Rod for a decent demo?
Nice purchase, not my cuppa...but it is for you innit

Hey Qkkid, nice looking bike, congratulations on being the new owner. Hope you get many happy miles on it.
Those controls are way forward, do you prefer riding with the legs stretched right out like that all the time - if I get the urge to stretch I put the back of my heels on the pegs to stretch my legs.
