For people unaware Valve's announced they'll be bringing some popular titles over for the penguin to play first up being L4D2 (I assume the others will inculde the usual CS source, TF2, HL2 etc)

The more surprising part however is L4D2 performs better with the penguin than it does trapped in windows

"Even now, during development, the Valve team has L4D2 running at 315 frames per second on the Linux text platform, as compared to the standard Windows speed of 270.6 FPS." <- DirectX

However the development for Linux also has some advantages for Windows users

"This work on Linux is also benefiting the Windows teams - in working on the Linux version, Valve was able to speed up the OpenGL implementation on Windows to 303.4 FPS."

yeah.. I was reading the other day some game they are porting can get up to 50% more FPS in linux than windows..

If more people used linux, more games would get ported, they would be better, faster, and more awesome..

but then.. I dont game so, meh.

I heard about that last week. It sounds very good indeed. Now we just have to wait for AMD to develop some decent drivers that aren't buggy/

Thats the theory spouted, Unfortunately linux is somewhat stuck in a catch 22.
Even Valve's move doesn't appear to be "linux is a good platform to support" so much (but they're putting in a good effort is seems) but more "windows is starting it's decent, we need to diversify" (which appears to come mostly from response to win8 RT)
