Gday all,
This season it will be different, Clubmans will be closely monitored for lap times and new racers will be supported and supervised more closely.
If you’re a new Clubmans class racer you will receive an extra briefing concentrating on the things that will affect you, wherever possible given a mentor for the day if you wish and if you are a new license holder you will be given an orange Hi-Viz vest to wear for your first ten races to identify you to other racers on the circuit so they can afford you the respect and curtsy you deserve.
You lap times will be closely monitored and should you break the 1:10’ a lap for Pukekohe or 1:15’ a lap time for Hampton Downs you will be asked to move to your respective class outside of Clubmans (in other words you are to fast for Clubmans). If you have still to complete your ten races as a new license holder you are still required to wear the orange Hi-Viz, for the same reasons as above.
All of the above is to keep the Clubmans class a safe, supportive and less intimidating enviroment for new racers to experience this great sport of ours.
If you have been thinking about getting into racing but have been ‘put off’ for any reason you can now be assured AMCC will be doing its best at getting you started with as much support we can. Doing track days are great at blowing away the cobwebs but racing is where the real buzz is, come and give it a go. MNZ have even dropped the price of a Club Competition License for you.
Any questions? Come to any club night (Thursdays) or ask me or any member of the club committee and we will be happy to answer them for you.
Cheers
KG

This is a great rule that they run in the UK, but just to clarify- is that 10 races or 10 race meetings?

Ten races,
Should we run the 3 races per round as the schedule indicates new license holders could complete their 10 races within 4 meetings.

What sort of bike prep is needed to race in Clubmans? My impression was that it is more of a 'run whacha brung' type class for people new to racing. I've looked through the MNZ sites compitition rules, but they don't specifically refer to Clubmans in any way as far as I can find. (Because it isn't a national class I guess????) I would assume that at least the removal of mirrors, lights, turn signals, license plate, ect would need to be removed, but what about safety wiring, side stand removal, ect.
Can I get a reference as to what collection of rules I need to follow specifically for the bike prep? I don't mind reading and complying with them, I just need to know which ones to go with.......

This is for the Auckland Motorcycle Club series run at both Hampton Downs and Pukekohe. First race is September 29th.

Count me in! I've just acquired a SV650 that is 95% ready to race, just need to lockwire a few things and should be ready to go. Is there a practice or qualifying session before racing for clubmans? I feel like it would be a good idea to get a few laps in as i dont want to be sitting on th grid of my first bike race on a bike that i have no seat time on. Sadly ART is the day after round 1.

Yes you get a practise/qualifying session prior to the racing starting.
Pukekohe run open practise days check http://www.countiesracing.co.nz/ for dates and Hampton Downs http://www.hamptondowns.com/pages/1/home.htm run the same thing so you may get the opportuity to put som K's under your belt before race day.

Yes to all of that, wire the sump plug, plus replace the coolant with something that doesn't contain glycol.
I raced a Hornet 900 for a season in clubmans and rode it to the track, removed the lights, number plate, side stand, added race numbers and raced. Put all that shit back on and rode home after.
More important you will need a good helmet that fits properly, good leather boots, leather gloves, full leather suit (preferably one piece) and a back protector. If you are seriously contemplating giving it a whirl contact the club running the event directly and I'm sure the will be only to willing to tell you all you need to know. In my case it was the Vic club and one of the committee actually came round and checked my bike for me well before the meeting !! :2thumbsup
Clubmans is a great place to try out racing and for some people it is enough to keep the itch scratched and they have no desire to go into another class.
edit - all this has already been answered - I guess I should have read the whole thread before posting - Doh :(

That's not an issue! Was more wondering if they start everyone in clubmans regardless of bike capacity, rather than putting you in a class like f3 and giving you the hi vis.

generally clubmans is the first port of call, there's some skilled eyes watching to help improve novices and or move them to a higher class if they demonstrate the skills.
Get out there and do it.

We divide Clubmans into senior and junior dependant on engine size :msn-wink: Would be good to see that 250 riding round the outside of some of the bigger bike :2thumbsup

Great to know. Splitting it sounds pretty cool actually. I'll be in with a grin when I'm back in town in nov/dec. I want to also do a race or two at Taupo, so would I need to get a full competition license to race at more than one club?

No just a club license is required to race a club level throughout the country.

Cool beans. I've glanced through the rule book but haven't looked through it in depth yet. Guess I need to do that.................and find the money for a track bike.........................and then figure out how to not be a mobile chicane to everyone else. One thing at a time.

Another question or two about the MNZ licensing process.
1. Am I correct in saying that you need a birth certificate? Is a passport not good enough?
2. Re. Race numbers. Do I submit a number I would like (as per the application form) or is that only for national classes?
3. Where do I find info on numberboard colours, and does it apply for all clubs?
Sorry about the questions, but for a prospective racer a lot of the obvious information isn't actually obvious at all.

No worries, keep them coming.
1. My understanding is you need your birth certificate if you are under 16yrs old http://www.mnz.co.nz/download/2012_Licence_Application.pdf to gain complete clarity give Bonnie a ring on 07 8287852 and she will put you right.
2. You can request a number but if it is taken you will be given the next available number for your class.
3. If you check you class regs here http://www.mnz.co.nz/competitionrules.aspx it will tell you what colour numbers and boards you a required to have.

I have checked the regs and it doesn't really tell you what colours are for the numbers for Clubmans. It's actually quite ambiguous in it's description to be honest.
What is considered to be acceptable for numbers. ei: colour of background and number and also size.
I don't have a lot of places to put any large numbers as such. Could put one on the nose of my fairing and one on the side of fairing probably. That is where they were when i brought it off another racer.
HELP ANYONE! What is acceptable???

run the number colours that's appropriate for the class your bike would be in if it weren't in clubmans then, that way if you're quick enough then when they put you into that class you'll be sorted
rule says they must be ledgible from twenty meters on a ride by...

As jellywrestler states check what class you would be in if you moved from Clubmans.
In fact let me know what bike it is you will be racing and I'll look it up for you and let you know.
Check some of the pics in my album for ideas where and how to put your numbers, everybody needs to be able to see them.

Yellow number board and Black numbers if supersport spec or Balck number board and yellow numbers if superstock spec.
Check rules 10.2.3 for sizes etc http://www.mnz.co.nz/download/2012_MoMS_Chapter_10_Motorcycles_Technical.pdf
