Anyone know the rules and regulations for trailriding in australia? Im moving there shortly and just wanted to know if you can rock up to the track or trail with any bike, or if only certain types of bike can ride in the bush etc...

best to talk to the shops over thier, i know some bike parks in queensland are open to every sort of bikes, but you have to have a rego'd bike for the state forest parks etc,

what part of aus are you moving to?

If riding off road in Aus in National parks etc you will need a bike that is registered, Victoria do a Recreational rego for the likes of WR's, The cops here in NSW now have the new 2012 WR450 - I know I sold the bikes to them & they will book you if caught riding an unregistered bike, the fines are big try $1000

I lived over there for 12 years. Owned 6 bikes across that time. Cops are pretty anal about off road riders. Yeah they chase you. Then there are the random nobs who string fencing wire across the tracks at head height. And don't forget the harsh insects and reptiles you share the bush with. Riding offroad over there isn't as fun or safe as riding here.

Yeah the riding is not good compared to God zone. We've got 2 ex pats that come back every 2-3 months just to ride here because the riding is so regulated and really hard to come by in Aussie. Worse in Queensland.

Even Black Duck Creek (I think thats its name)park is still a few hours out of Brisbane. That is if they are still going as they have a really poor safety record with 3 deaths in two years and were being investigated by OH&S.

My ride buddy who pissed off to Perth just came back for my wedding, he reckons it's crap. Mostly for reasons already mentioned, but he moved to QLD briefly and mentioned there were a couple of trail parks he would like to try, but nothing that was as easy to get to or as good as what we have around here. He watched some of my helmet cam vids and was gutted.

i looked seriously at moving to queensland at the start of the year, and one of the reasons i did not like it was the lack of good riding compared to here, weather it was off road or MX we had a way better choice of tracks, and about a quarter of the price,

and i am not sure if could handle riding in that heat in summer much

Ive been based in Aussie three years now (Sydney NSW) and can say that the riding over here is excellent where I am. The main thing that makes it so good is the WEATHER. Its almost always sunny here unlike the predominately crappy weather at home. I had a 05 wr250 for the rego'ed rides in the bush (the amount and quality of trails over here is unbelieveable!) and an 07 sx250f for the mx tracks. Both bikes cost me about $2700 each and my van was 2K to cart them around in (low mileage mitsi). Second hand vehicles are priced too high here so there is much fun to be had bartering things down. It is a buyers market here so you can virtually name your price. Join a forum (DBW) to find mates to ride with if you don't know anyone and naturally you will find more he more you head out. If your into mx you will find the standard of the tacks is a notch up from what you are used to... Mt Kembla is off the hook! ride parks are very well catered for also. So enjoy! the sheila's dont look too bad over this way also ... well a bit sharper than the upper hutt ones I was used to seeing anyhow's...
